New stations for Melbourne's rail network

  True Believers Chief Commissioner

Here are some stations that I proposed that could be added to Melbourne's rail network within 5 to 10 years
They are as follows:

Derrimut station; there is future development planned where the Werribee Agriculture and Food technology is.
Tarneit west station: serves growth corridor
West Werribee station; serves growth corridor
Blackforest station: serves growth corridor
North Eltham station: better access to rail in this area
Toolern station: serves growth corridor
Cambellfeild station; better access for rail in this area and also can connect with smartbus
Calder Park/Holden station; better access to rail in this area, serves growth corridor
Dandenong south station: better access to jobs in the Dandenong industry district
Cavehill station; better access to rail in this area

Note: Not adding Derrimut station on RRL yet so doesn't create confusion with Derrimut road station on Werribee line. If someone has a better name for either of the stations let me know.

It was fun to come up with a list, maybe someone can add to the list or come up with their own version. Any questions ask below:

Ok thanks for the comments, edited the post. Added Cave hill station and added second name to Calder Park station.

I wouldn't worry about a station at Derrimut Road as it is close enough to Hoppers Crossing.

Instead, I would add a new station at Derrimut and upgrade Tarneit Station to have the two middle tracks for express trains, and two new outer tracks for stopping trains. The new stations at Derrimut and Tarneit West would be combined with a major upgrade of all the RRL lines. But that's for another thread.

The new stations and the upgrades would ensure that all RRL lines would have the capacity to serve the areas they run through well into the future.

As long as Geelong and Warrnambool trains ain't forced to stop at all these extra RRL stations (costing their schedule about 3 minutes each additional stop) Tarneit shout be cut from their schedule and picked up by Wyndham Vale locals.

Yes there are plans to add stations along the RRL route, you and I missed Blackforest station on the west side of RRL. A lot suggest the benefits of Quadding RRL, but why not just electrify the line instead so you can have High capacity trains and signalling on the line. More frequency needed than faster services.

If you don't know Derrimut Road station will be only be constructed if the Werribee south Employment centre and redevelopment happens in 5-10 years time. Probably at the bottom of the list, but there is already provision for a centre platform from the grade separation so very easy to add the station without the need to move the tracks.

As for RRL I mentioned before Electrifying the line and having High capacity signalling is the long term plan to increase capacity on the line. So no need for provision of Quadding all the way.

Blackforest station would actually be on the Werribee - Wyndham Vale extension, that could also host a reopened Werribee Racecourse station.

Edited it out, Werribee Racecourse station will probably be renamed West Werribee station if ever reopened.

I'm not so sure about Calder park.  Can't have housing under the Tullamarine flight path there.  It might have some use as a temporary station during big events at Calder Park Raceway (which don't happen as often as they did 20-30 years ago).

Cave Hill (Lilydale) should be a priority IMO.

Pretty sure the flight paths are north and east of Calder Park - not directly over it.

Hope this map helps understand where flight paths roughly are

Cave Hill?  There's already a thread on that.  Could happen as part of the duplication, but not much point before then.

This particular topic could quite accurately be named, "The Annual Wish List."

Yes indeed this is a very optimistic plan I've put up there.
