Flinders St station has a Kiosk on each platform whilst Spencer St doesn't have any on the platforms (just one in the subway), and I don't recall Melbourne Central and Flagstaff stations having Kiosk, neither have I seen Parliament station's Kiosk open. In other words Flinders St station has more Kiosks than the rest of the City loop combined.

There is Coffee HQ on each of the platforms at Melbourne Central. I guess this qualifies as a kiosk of sorts.

At Ringwood as has been already mentioned there is a double fronted kiosk on platform 3 that services both it and the bus stops on the other side. There is also a Churro Hut on the island platform facing number 2.

Officer without a doubt, There are about 4 houses within walking distance and anyone else would probably drive to pakenham or narre warren or hallam. The station is basic and run down and i think between officer and pakenham is probably the longest distance between two stations on the whole suburban line. And i have NEVER seen even one person waiting on it.

Cheers

As has been said before, the longest distance in all of melbourne is from Dandenong to Merinda Park.

Officer to Pakenham (and Dandenong to Merinda Park) are in 115km/h zones, so the time travelled shouldn't be long. Anyway... if Lakeside station gets built, this distance will be halved!

Then again, distance shouldn't only count for mileage, but also time travelled.

Take Newport to Seaholme, trains take longer to travel on a shorter distance.

but the problem with the dandenong to merinda park section means that since it isn't double tracked all the way trains sometimes have to stop for services going the other way to pass through. and also since it isn't double tracked the frequency is poor to say the least.

I thought this thread was about least used stations, if you want to go on about distances theres another thread altogether. And as ive said before i dont think any station would be less used than Officer.

When I went to Pakenham, 1 person got out of my Hitachi at Officer. There were 2 cars in the carpark, which wasn't even a made carpark. According to http://www.railpage.org.au/metcard/, Officer doesn't even have an MVM 2 machine.

This thread has so far neglected any mention of stations served by V/line. You are a rather Melburnian - centred lot but I will try to move away from that by nominating Springhurst as as a little used station. It is well served for its township size, having 4 services stopping daily, it does have a modestly populated surrounding countryside to help it and I have always observed at least one person alighting or boarding when I have looked. The bus service from Corowa does not use this as a connecting point so it does not get the patronage of simarly sized Murchison East for example.

Can anybody think of any smaller places with V/line pax stations still open ?

I don't know what it's like in the "peak" but Donnybrook is only a small collection of houses and a pub. Surely it wouldn't see all that many users throughout the day. Having said that I can recall people getting on and off Seymour trains the few times I've been through.

Heathcote Junction and Wandong seem similarly quiet, although they are in a rural-residential area which would justify their existence and close proximity to each other.

How many people live in Springhurst?

Talking about V/ stations, isn't the population of Malmsbury less than 350? There are never any cars in the station carpark as of a morning, though there is still litter left on the platforms. And how much use does Clarkefield get as of a morning?

Is there any vague timeline put on this? I am guessing its not going to happen any time soon...

Springhurst's population would be only about a little over 100. Donnybrook may be no larger but it is surrounded by small rural holdings where people commute by rail towards Melbourne. Clarkfield must be the smallest town served by V/line trains but its use is boosted by commuter traffic from nearby smallholdings and towns like Romsey and Lancefield. Malmsbury is a larger place and has some commuter traffic partly from further afield. I am surprised that it does not get more than the present 4 daily services.

Dingee looked definitly no bigger than Springhurst last time I glimpsed it from the train but it is the only present day stop between Bendigo and Pyramid Hill so it must be fed from a large area.

Springhurst and Dingee look like the best rural contenders to me.

It will be 10 services after RFR. Your lucky to see 1 car at the station on a workday, and on most days there are no cars at the station.

You are the one who mentioned station distances first!

If you are going to take a swipe at other people, then don't do it over something you do first.

Hypocrite!

Don't hold your breath! Lynbrook estate has been around for over five years now and it still hasn't got the railway station promised to its residents by developers soon after they first started moving in.

As for Lakeside, most of it's still being constructed, although they have the "Cardinia Cultural Centre" over near the lake already. Optimistic estimate would be a minimum seven to ten years.

I fell that I have read most of this thead and believe that this question has not been answered so here goes:
Was General Motors closed because it was the least used station?
