Yesterday at Mortdale, I saw something I have never seen before push and pull working on one of the Manildra flour trains. It came through at 11am on the up with two 81-class leading, then a long train with another 81-class pushing. Is this normal or was it the result of a failure or something else?

Front of SCT008 has me curious. Two brown spots on the white part just above the red horizontal bar area. Spot on the side where crew are standing is larger than the other side.

This is flange lubricant used to reduce flange wear in curves applied to the leading axle.

It gets thrown up onto the nose (or maybe the nose of an adjacent locomotive) from the trailing end of the locomotive.

It is pretty common on NR class and can extend further up than the example shown.

Doesn't 4201, look sensational? Maybe just a spruce up, but I reckon a repaint. I think the only loco, preserved in a time clelebrated livery, anniversary. Certainly none in bi-centenary paint, left.

Thanks for posting.
