Also, one more piece of advice for the SCAAT test - remain calm, try and not to think about your progress, just keep working as best as you can. It helps me during practices - looking at the timer and my progress distract me and make me lose focus.

Looking at the thread in Whirlpool (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2540484&p=41), it looks like it's being done on paper.

Hi Kaz

Certainly looks like it. SCAAT and comprehension with 100 other people. See you all there mid morning on 1st
April and good luck!

Interesting, Kaz's link actually worked in Spiritman's quote, which is good, because it sounds like the test will be done on paper - which I would prefer, even though I prefer computers over paper overall.

Sounds like some were distracted during the testing by their surroundings, sounds like it's best to do the best to focus on the paper - just like one day we shall be focusing on the railway track.

Best of luck, and God Bless

Sorry Ethan, the BBcode failed on the original post, so I had to edit it.

I might see you guys on Saturday!

Do the test results count towards the guard role? I've applied for both.

No need to apologize, all is good.

It certainly will be interesting to meet people from the forum in real life - I wear glasses so hopefully that will help you recognize me quickly if no one else there does.

I'm assuming they do since the online testing did, but I'm not sure, as for the online testing, this is from the email:

"Your results will be taken into consideration should you apply for other roles within the Transport Cluster in the next 12 months that use the same test."

Just another piece on information, I asked a driver today about the SCAAT test and they said it's about accuracy and not how much you get done - with that being said, we have been instructed to aim for accuracy AND speed.

What time does everyone plan on getting to 66 Goulburn Street by the way? I will get to Central at 6:40AM so I can grab breakfast from the McDonald's near Town Hall Station, and hope to be there 15 minutes before testing (7:30AM).

Hey guys, any info on where i find / apply for these openings? I'm in Melbourne and metro isn't taking on any new drivers for awhile so i was hoping to be picked up elsewhere, any suggestions?

The position closed a few weeks ago. Metro will be hiring later in the year however for trainees.

Hi All

How did everyone go? Had about 300 at my 11am session! Completed about half (or a little more) of every test hopefully with good accuracy. All test were designed not to be finished to keep you under the pump!

Good luck to all who participated, hoping to meet up with you and the 2 nice people I met today at the group interviews.

About 300 at my 7:45AM session, I completed questions 1-26 (first two columns) on the reading comprehension test, and about half (give or take depending on the block, I think I did a bit less on some of them) on the SCAAT test, hopefully with good accuracy.

I hope I did well, they said it will take about a week to find out.

On the SCAAT test, I accidently wrote my name in the wrong place (fixed up after, but couldn't erase due to poor eraser), I hope that doesn't give them a reason to not consider me.

There was about the same at my session on the 26th,
I completed all but the last 4 questions, and about half of each page of the SCAAT test, with decent accuracy.

I've been emailed, being informed of having been successful in progressing to next stage which is awesome!

At my session they kept us outside in the street untill about 8.
I was worried when I had 6 questions left but I'm through and booked in for the next stage.
Anyone happen to know how many stages?

Anyone else read the question on the back of page 1 we weren't meant to fill in? I didn't realise Irish was separate from white.

ATTENTION EVERYONE WHO MADE IT TO NEXT STAGE

Congratulations! as a Christian, I say to God be the glory!!!!!!!

Best of luck you all and God Bless.
Will I be seeing any of you at 8:30AM on Tuesday?

I'm not happy with how part 1 today went but part 2 was a winner. For those who know, it's a interesting test isn't it? but no talking about it of course.

Good luck to everyone!

The role play sure was different to any other job interviews i have previously done!
Has anyone recieved any communication (positive or negative) since the role play? I think i remember hearing we should hear back within a week or so?!
  Toten Station Master

I got my results this morning, I'm through to the interview but there were only 2 options to book, I can only hope they are opening them in bursts for people instead of all at once.
  h.m Beginner

I just recieved an email today asking me to book in for an interview, although when i try to book in it says to "check back regularly".

I wonder how many people progressed to interviews vs how many trainee positions there are!

I got an email today, unfortunately, I was not successful, with that being said, I will be trying again as soon as I can.

Best of luck to all of you who made it through, I hope I may join you soon.

God Bless

Its a shame to hear that Ethan1395!

How did everyone find the interview? i was told that there were 200 people going for the interview and they have the capacity to employ 200 people. So for those who had an interview, we all have equal opportunity dependant on how we interview!

Goodluck to everyone and hopefully we hear back within a few weeks!

It's a shame, but at least I know what to do this time.
I think God was testing my faith to be honest.

I thought they were only going to take in 100 people, it's good they are taking in 200.

Is there anything I should study to help for my next attempt? or should I just try and pick up some other work in the mean time?

Best of luck, hopefully you all make it and I shall join you in 12 months time, God Bless.
  Toten Station Master

I'm feeling confident about the interview especially after they told be they are hiring alot of people. Now the waiting game.

Update, didn't get it. See you all next time the jobs advertise

Hope you have better luck on your next attempt Ethan1395.

Hi all,

I’ve been invited to attend testing session for latest recruitment for trainee driver. Just wondering if anyone can provide a bit of insight around rosters and working conditions?

I understand that it’s shift work, but I haven’t been able to find an example of what an actual roster looks like, apart from the “it will require early mornings, late nights, weekends” etc
I currently work days with every second weekend off, I imagine it would be very different to this.
If anyone could help with this it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Trainee Driver
- Classroom = 0800 to 1600 weekdays
- Practical = follow your trainers roster. Maximum shift of 8 hours, 33 minutes, and you work 9 days in first fortnight, 10 days in second fortnight.

Qualified Driver
- Same as practical however your times will be on a 24/7 rotating roster. Just because the passenger trains stop at middnightish, doesn't mean the drivers don't. Empty car movements and point cleaning occur at night and early morning.

You may start the week at say 0207 (yes, the sign on time is that specific) and work around the clock so by the end of the fortnight your last shift starts at 2139.

There is no other working like this type of shiftwork. It is genuinally around the clock, and you will either like it or hate it. One of the biggest reasons for high turnover is the inability of people to adjust to this lifestyle. I say lifestyle because the working will change the way you, and your family live your life.
Expect to work weekends a LOT (especially with the new timetable) and to miss holidays and important events with your family. I wont sugar coat it, it can have a big impact if you have a family.
It has positives and negatives, but my advice would be give it a go. I think it is a purely subjective thing, to describe the working.
