Please try and be objective folks. I think we'd all concede that BOTH TEAMS would like to improve country rail services. By all means advocate the policies of the side you support, but intelligent and polite discussion isn't helped by slagging off the kids who hang around on the other side of the playground to cool kids like you.
If you just want to slag of the Libs and Nats, there is a special long running "I hate Malcolm Turnbull even more than you do" thread, where you will feel quite at home.
As this thread was created regarding the Liberal Party's concerns about public transport, it would do well for that side of the political spectrum to be aware that the former Baillieu/Napthine government lost office in part due to dropping the ball on PT, where no trains were ordered for V/Line for over 2 years whilst V/Line was enjoying very strong growth in patronage which leaves the current overcrowding issues seeming insignificant by comparison. Overcrowding was endemic on ALL RFR lines at that time.
Moreover, due to increasing the frequency of services through Deer Park and the Geelong line, there has been created a very bad bottleneck because the former government very unwisely and with little thought to the consequences re-directed that Melbourne bound rail flyover money to the Western Highway.
Further still, it's well known that V/Line had to pay an efficiency dividend to the former state government, despite a buoyant state budget surplus.
Therefore, I have no hesitation in calling on Mr Carew, who has the ear of the Shadow Minister for Public Transport and as a railfan who reads these pages to be aware and for the Shadow cabinet to be aware to reign in the bean counters on that side of the political spectrum if they wish to be taken seriously at the 2018 election.
Conversely, the Brumby government lost the 2010 state election on much the same issue...not enough investment in PT...despite the spin, and people were fed up with late, cancelled and infrequent services, particularly on the Frankston line and that's where the former government won office from economist/bean counter and his own worst enemy...John Brumby.
