This is ridiculous that the transport minister already rejected calls for this extension to Clyde, even though they are already building the rail line to Mernda. The government needs to get its priority straight, the Clyde extension is a 0-15 year project must happen right now though. All these improvements must happen before the Melbourne Metro tunnel so capacity can be used. Very disappointing to those who live on the outer edges of Cranbourne on that single track. The suburbs in the South Eastern are growing rapidly and the Clyde electrification project should be planned and prepared right now. Danm even the North East Link which is in the same timeframe on Infrastructure Victoria list gets a go ahead. I thought this government was against using politics to prioritise projects to their own benefit. Cranbourne rail duplication and extension should be the next top priority but apparently it must be done after metro tunnel which is opens in 10 years time.

If you look at the 0-15 year list for Infrastructure Victoria, I reckon I would of ranked North East Link near the bottom. Train timetabling for the Werribee line which has stalled, Melton electrification, Clyde extension of course, and even 10 car trains/high capacity signalling is even better.

What about reinstating regional services further south-east like Wonthaggi, Leongatha, Yarram, Tooradin and Korumburra?

I think the rail line should only go to Clyde, reinstating regional services would mean that Dandenong line can't handle any extra services along its double track. Better to consider to duplicate and extend to Clyde and the Quadding of the Dandenong line as the next priority.

If land is zoned for a third airport at Monomeith/Kooweerup I reckon regional rail services would start up with that, extending the line from clyde to the airport. But that is a 20+ year project.

I'd suggest a station at Casey Fields instead (or in addition) as there are bus routes which run right past it now and more routes in the future, there is plenty of space for the station buildings, platforms and more parking (and a bus interchange along Berwick-Cranbourne Rd)

Cranbourne east can be built near the Narren Warren Road, Caesy fields station should be where you spotted at that intersection. And Clyde station in it same former location.

Also by the looks of it, lots of housing around the existing rail corridor, which is exactly like Mernda only to wait another 10 years after it was first promised. Cranbourne extension project is to ensure that when the area is established that there is a operating rail line for them to access. I don't know how Infrastructure Victoria got that figure that rail line must wait another so and so year away, originally it was 15-30 year timeline then they put it in 10 -15 year timeline. But seriously should be considered now within a 0-10 year timeline. They are the group of that the government called "experts" although obviously never been in that area or have any knowledge of looking on a map.

That's exactly what it is: a future bypass for Cranbourne. Not likely to be a freeway but more a primary arterial (think Dingley Bypass).

Yup. Won't be grade separated and will continue down to a new junction with the South Gippy below the racecourse.

While Sladen St/Cranbourne-Berwick road will be duplicated and Casey Fields Bvld. will be extended south through those fields to also connect with the Sth Gippy and I belive Ballato Road has an easement for duplication along all those properties, which will make way for estates in 10 years anyway... which is why I think a Caseyfields station makes sense, it will be in the middle of a lot of future houses and would be located on a future crossroad for major throughfares.


So continues the neverending sprawl of car-centric estates.

In fact all the expensive components of the plan have already either been funded/well underway or completed, in fact the only item not done is that Cranbourne Extension.

A RAIL line to Clyde is coming closer into view after the State Government announced it had set aside $3 million to buy land for a rail station in fast-growing Cranbourne East.

The Cranbourne Leader has been campaigning for the Cranbourne line to be extended to service the exploding population in Casey’s south. More than 240,000 people are expected to live in the Cranbourne East/Clyde area by 2025 and Casey’s population will hit almost 500,000 by 2041.

But while the move is a step in the right direction, it is not known when the new Cranbourne East station will be up and running.

Cranbourne state Labor MP Jude Perera said land for a rail station in Cranbourne East had been identified some years ago but development had since made it unviable.

He said the new Cranbourne East station plan was not an election promise or dependent on Labor getting re-elected.

Line duplication work is underway between Dandenong and Dandenong South and Mr Perera said he hoped the line could also be extended to Clyde and duplicated to that point.

“I am pleased duplication has commenced and that there is money to find land for the rail line at Cranbourne East,” Mr Perera said.

The State Government announced on December 6 that it was also spending $3 million for a fire station at Clyde North.

A parcel of land for the fire station in Clyde North has been identified on Thompsons Rd in the Meridian Estate with the fire station expected to open in the 2018-2019 financial year.

Minister for suburban development Lily D’Ambrosio said the growing area needed more infrastructure.

“These vital infrastructure projects will ensure Melbourne’s growth areas remain liveable and accessible for years to come,” she said.

I guess I was correct in my assessment further up the page that the former location for a Cranbourne East station was that infill development which used up the land.

Would it be cheaper to run elevated rail along the route now, bypassing the need to grade separate so many roads since they've all been built in the last 10 years at surface level?

They said it isn't an election promise but I sure do hope it is one, gives us a timeframe of 5 years for it to be built.

The Mernda rail link only happened due to being a marginal seat. The only when it becomes marginal, then the rail link may get encouraged to be built sooner. Honestly I read the comments in the article and complained that the Rowville and Doncaster lines need to be built first.

Extensions to the metro network  to the outer regions are more beneficial to the state than areas with existing infrastructure.

Extending the metro network to Wyndham Vale, Tarniet, Melton, Clyde, Baxter and Wallan should be planned for. 5-10 years (Clyde, Melton, Wydnham Vale via Werribee). 10-20 years (Baxter, Wallan, Tarniet) 20+ years (Geelong)

Doncaster and Rowville just need a bus rapid system (Brisbane, Adelaide), or/and an effective light rail system (Gold Coast, Canberra).

Reality is infrastructure like railways or freeways are expensive to retrofit in an existing area with no land reserved. (Just look at the cost of North East link) It would be like building a rail tunnel branch right into Gold Coast or Canberra central district. Ain't as feasible as a network of direct bus routes or an efficient light rail line.

The metro tunnels are different since they segregate the rail lines and able to run twice the capacity if they seperate a branch off the overall network. It is essentially improving the whole network. Whereas these expensive rail links/freeways funnel more traffic unto a already congested line/corridor.

This looks promising. Let's get the rail line out to Clyde. Mernda folks had to wait years for their service. Cranbourne east is now fully developed area with a rail reserve at their back door. Council trying to get the rail line to Clyde is a step in the right direction, hopefully the government commit to it.

I'm sorry but that is not within the Urban Growth Boundary (where the development is going). Here is the general idea.

If you want long term planning for rail lines into growing areas:
-Extend to Clyde
-Electrify Melton line
-Electrify RRL corridor
-Electrify Wallan line

Other key enabling projects for the future:
-Metro 2 Tunnel (allows Werribee and South Morang lines to have more capacity)
-Two more tracks on Dandenong corridor (allows express/freight to use the extra tracks)
-Airport Rail Link (enables separation of the Regional services for Bendigo and North East service)

Actually I read in an earlier "Newsrail" article that the patch of grass you're referring too used to be a rail line to the sand mines along the South Gippsland Highway. I believe it was in existence around the earlier 1900's, but quite possibly lasted a bit longer. However, as Alstom states, it is slated for the future duplication of Narre Warren Rd.

I used to work at Casey Grammar which can be seen along the old reservation near Casey RACE. I used to be fascinated by the fact that hi-rail vehicles would operate on the old track each week to check for any movement. Like it was going to be used in the near future...not.

Housing will stop just after clyde, all swamp land otherwise, there won't be suburbs in Tooradin, they'll turn north and fill in the space between Pakenham and Clyde, which IMO should have a rail reserve for something in the long term to service the future airport at monomeith with a branch from the gippsland line.

Out that way for most people it is probably all they could afford.

It is a well known poverty trap for families, you buy a house in the outer fringe as it is the only thing in your price range then you spend so much money on cars to travel around that you end up worse off than you would have been if you bought closer to the city

Hopefully this would mean Labor would actually fast-track plans for Clyde rail. They have been slow to address this. It's like Mernda rail announcements back in 2014.
