Now everyone, tell us what is wrong with this image from  the building site on the corner of Bathurst and Sussex Streets in Sydney.

There are at least five correct answers.

Well, I'm a Mexican who doesn't know that much about Sydney except that they got rid of their original tram system a very long time ago.

So the metric style road speed limit sign, the relatively modern van and the advertising with a price in dollars leads me to think that it is either not Sydney or that they've photoshopped trams into a more recent picture of a Sydney scene.

The clothes on the people in the foreground seem appropriate. Is that a double-decker bus behind tram 3?

The one that hits me in the eye is the trailer with the advertisement for PIZZAS which except on Movies and TV certainly didnt exist back when the Trams still ran in Sydney.

The 'Senior College Banner' is another as we never had 'Seniors' then like we do today.

That's five. Well done.

Also I doubt that there were mobile bill-boards in Sydney in those days.

The advertisement on the building above the closest tram shows the woman wearing a track suit top with three stripes on the sleeves which is an Adidas logo.
This style was 1970's era which doesn't fit the general era of the photo, also the style of the advert doesn't fit the era.

I have certainly seen pictures of trams in Brisbane being used as mobile billboards with displays for washing machines and kitchen appliances etc; so mobile billboards were certainly around in those post-war years.

Also I wanted to point out the one thing that stood out to me very prominently - the billboard having prices in "metric" money which as I recall didn't come in until about three years after the last trams ran in Sydney?

Nobody else has mentioned the inflatable tube man on the right hand side yet. That would be out of place even if it was placed there today.

Other way around. It's clearly a photo of an old street scene (possibly in Sydney, and I think the foreground and background of the street are different photos merged together) with a bunch of newer objects pasted on top.

The style of the advertisement would suggest they were lifted from photographs taken around 3-5 years ago.

University Senior College is a year 11-12 school at the University of Adelaide. They did hold one of their 2016 open days at 2:00pm on Sunday 23 October (scroll to the bottom here).

Those banners were not that big in real life, and for obvious reasons were not used on any Adelaide streets with a tram line.

The USC banner and the trailer billboard owned by the Australia Pizza House store on West Terrace in Adelaide might suggest that the construction firm had contracted out the work to a graphic designer in Adelaide. It is also apparent that they weren't interested in paying a huge deal of money to guarantee high quality work.

Adidas didn't produce tracksuit tops until the 1970s.
