Back in Townsville for the first time in a couple of months, didn't have much time to go look for anything but did note that Aurizon's container flats stored at the Garbutt yard for the past few months and overgrown had been replaced with PN's flats (AQYS?) - assuming for Mt. Isa traffic.

Otherwise noted approximately 4 x 4000 class locomotives & a couple of clydes (somewhat oddly) parked up on the Forts roads at the Port of Townsville as I passed on the return ferry from Magnetic Island on Sunday and earlier today also observed cattle wagon (KLEX?) on the back of a semi presumably on its way to sims.

The AQQYs at Garbutt are part of Aurizon's new fleet for the MMG Dugald River zinc concentrate traffic starting in a few months. Two seventy wagon sets are proposed for the startup.

That gaggle of 4000s went down to the Jetty Sunday morning. I believe they were to supply motive power for a couple of Mt Isa line sets stuck down there after the GNR was closed on Friday by a broken axle on the acid train at Pentland.

Aurizon began scrapping KOJX cattle wagons stored at Cobarra today, I saw three heading down to Sims this morning. These wagons had previously been made surplus by the new Queensland Transport cattle crates now fitted to Aurizon's PCZYs and PJZYs.

Been meaning to ask. On 19 October I saw parked up at the Southern dock at Mackay Railway station:
2195 + Car carrier DDMP 43637 + Sitting Car 1877 + Baggage/Power Car 1452.

What was this train for?

Cheers
Jas

A QR carriage transfer to or from UGL Bohle (Townsville) for the Inlander set. These happen every few months from Brisbane. The car carrier is used as a spacer wagon to separate the carriage diaphragm from potentially fouling the locomotive.

Cleveland line close down this weekend.  We have been here ( Wynnum Nth station ) for 4 1/2 years and the nearby Glenora St level crossing is being reconstructed for the third time in that period.  This crossing is on a tight 50kph bend with only a 1 minute sked between Wyn. Nth. and Wyn. stations on the UP line.  Re-ballasting again from Wynnum Nth station to the crossing in progress.

Also noted the DOWN section of the Wynnum station footbridge being removed by crane.  I thought for one second that maybe finally platform access to the platform for the disabled ( so they can use the nice newish disabled toilet which they currently can't use as they can not get onto the platform ) might be in progress with a new bridge with lifts etc.   But no, an hour or so later a new section of footbridge was being lifted into place.

Noted yesterday that the track on the main Western line adjacent to the Acland coal siding had been removed. I presume it will be relaid on concrete sleepers.

In the Letters to the Editor in the CM on Monday, there was criticism on the Cleveland line being closed for the weekend of the Brisbane Test Match.

Also in relation to the latest re ballasting on the same curve, I wonder if this has something to with the NGR's, as I heard there are maybe clearance issues on some curves when two NGR's pass.

Part of the project to install concrete sleepers to Dalby? Has there been any progress on the lowering of tracks through the range tunnels? This was funded two years ago.

Normally in the weekday off peak 2 X 3 car units travel down to Manly LE between roughly 0800 and 0930, and are stowed there to return again LE at about 1345 and 1545.  They are usually joined by a 6 car 160 unit ( sometimes a 100 ), which travels back to town  LE at about 1445.
Last 2 days since the introduction of the 700's on the GC-APT run, this spare 160 unit has been missing, so maybe QR not game to stow a 700 at Manly yet.
