Except maybe Anzac, they could have just left it as Domain or if they really wanted to refer to the Shrine of Remembrance, just call the station "Shrine of Remembrance".

While I do disagree with the changing of North Melbournes name, I can definitely see why people are really bothered with the name in regards to its location, I just feel its kind of a waste of time and effort to change something that has been around for a literal century and a half.
I heard they had problems with calling ANZAC "shrine" I heard that the people of the shrine of rememberance are iffy about the name being plastered on stuff, I still reckon Domain was the better name though.
As for the survey it was most likely a PR stunt and meant to get some hype up, there wasn't any other reason for it.

Before we pass Stooge Spark's recommendations on to Daniel Andrews perhaps we should consider changing some station names back to previous versions.

Most people don't get confused by Southern Cross, sure some people are stuck in the past and stilll choose to refer to it as Spencer St, but even they know what Southern Cross station is when they hear it mentioned. They are just stuck in the past.

The difference of course with the Southern Cross renaming is that they didn't also assign the old name of Spencer Street to another station.  If someone still chooses to refer the station as Spencer Street it doesn't really matter as there is no other station called that.

The issue with North Melbourne however could be much more serious.  Imagine someone has a heart attack at one of the two stations. I could easily envisage a situation where emergency services get dispatched to the wrong site, due to someone incorrectly referring to the wrong location name.

Out of interest who knows what the football stadium formerly known as Kardinia Park is currently called?

In the last 15 or so years it has had a number of names including:

• Shell Stadium
• Baytech Stadium
• Skilled Stadium
• Simonds Stadium

I believe it is now known as GMHBA Stadium.

So many Metro announcements are unnecessarily verbose and less than clear. Do away with 'the' as well

Assuming that the train is not at Jacana, of course. Lost Siemens trains are an ongoing problem that no-one seems able to fix.

There are still people in Melbourne who couldn’t tell you where Southern Cross is but know where Spencer Street is, and others still call it Spencer Street (we all know where they mean). As has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the confusion is going to be greatly compounded by re-using the North Melbourne name elsewhere.

In all the years of using North Melbourne station, the name never created any confusion. I doubt you’ll find any mention of it in RP up until now. The whole of North Melbourne is NW of Melbourne anyway. Carlton is north of Melbourne. The entrance to West Melbourne station is east of the eastern-most entrance to North Melbourne station. The stations are equi-distance from the North Melbourne Town Hall. Change North Melbourne to West Melbourne if you must, but leave North Melbourne as Arden. It’s creating a problem as a solution to a problem that never existed.

Just wondering, has the timeframe for the name change of North Melbourne to West Melbourne been announced, or it's just still pencilled in for some unknown time in the future.

I assume it won't be this year, as the government won't want to a potential distraction before an election, however minor.

Some have suggested it may be changed when the Mernda rail line opens in early 2019, since they would have to update the maps.
