Mudgee Station and Yards

Hello all,

I'm searching for photos of the now demolished Mudgee lineside double advertising board which were located opposite the station building.  An elderly mate of mine(and ex Mudgee resident) is modelling  Mudgee Railway station and yards in HO and believes they may have advertised Arnotts biscuits  and Schweppes drinks.   I'd like to build one for him. I've  searched Google without any luck. Looking forward to any information  Please reply or PM me.  Thanks all.

Have you tried contactinb the local historical societies, and perhaps the local newspaper?

Not sure how much the advertising board removal would have been newsworthy but when changes take place its often recorded in the local papers.

Thank you a6et. A good idea. I've tried them on a previous tim without any luck so I will ask about the advertising boards. They may have a photo of the area somewhere. Tx again.

Mate, I would try a search as to any historical societies in the area, also you could also try and put a personal add for the info with the Mudgee tourist centre.  Check out any mens shed in Mudgee and see if there are any retired Railway men in them.
I am not sure but there could also have been a railway institute in Mudgee that may have a contact available.

I tried a similar search for info on the Tenterfield Abattoirs without a lot of success even though I got links to news of the closure, from the local paper, the photo's that accompanied the article were not in the link, just the papers page, minus pics.

Suggest try National Library of Australia, at " https://trove.nla.gov.au " and do an advanced search for "Mudgee Railway Station." This will search for newspapers, gazettes, books, plans, etc., that might contain what you are after.

Because the Railway was an 'Entity unto itself' and didnt have to seek approval when doing lots of things on Railway land, things came and went without it being recorded elsewhere.
I can remember the Lithgow District Superintendent and the ADS came to Katoomba one day and inspected all the notices, both Public and Departmental that adorned the Station and Subway so I gathered advertising was of some importance to them.
No doubt records would have been kept back in the Office (Pie Shop) at Lithgow until the last Clerk was made redundant and in came the 'Skip Bin' and took it allll away........
Mudgee, being in the ESK (Lithgow) District, their records would have been kept in Lithgow, I doubt much would have been transferred to Orange when it took over the district but after that..........

The only other place I can think of where records might have been placed was into the Real Estate section that was created to handle the use and sale of railway Land and property.
