Donald
Narp, from what I have been told, because they are running both B/G & S/G they need to distinguish between the Mangatang (B/G) and the Merbein (S/G). Once the B/G stops running then the S/G should change to 9101V/9102V.

Has the Dunolly to Yelta line gauge conversion been completed ?

There are resent photos posted of the container train between Melbourne and Manangatang still running.

Are the journey times on the re-gauged / rebuilt track ridiculously too long (such as 25 km/h max between Maryborough and Ararat)

It is not only 25km/h between Ararat & Maryborough.   It is 25 all the way to Mildura.   A looooong trip.
It is long enough drive at 100!

That's really pathetic Isn't It !

The Government spins away In their press releases on how their getting produce to overseas markets quicker and more efficiently, when an old farm tractor and trailer could beat a train from Mildura to Melbourne.

It was stated somewhere that the line had to carry 200'000 tonnes before the line speed would lifted.

When does Korong Vale to Sea Lake close for conversion ? or Is that already underway.

Still plenty of grainies clearing Berriwillock, Nullawil & Charlton at the moment.

It'll take about 50 trains before it can run at line speed.

Incidentally, many of the protected level crossings are now active on the Ararat-Maryborough section.

I understand that conversion should've begun between Sea Lake and Nullawil.

Elsewhere it was posted (i think by @Carnot) that they were going to leave one of the branches open (i think the one to Manangatang) for a bit longer and close the other one.  I think Sea Lake was the one to close first?  Not sure when though and  sounds like not yet given the info re grainies above.

The construction contractors should of been running "shake down" trains along the track as soon as It was accessible (as like when the Ballarat - Ararat line was reopened back In 2004)

Probably using loaded ballast wagons.

Quick question ... was the BG line between Mittyack and Kulwin ever reinstated by the mining company that operated the Kulwin mineral sands mine?
I thought it was part of the mining approval that the rail line was to be reinstated after the mine closure

I passed that way in September 2015 and nothing had been restored. Cant remember if the Baulks were at Mittyack or Sea Lake then.

Baulks fitted at Sea Lake just past the grain loading site. No intentions to the open past Sea Lake again.

I was driving from Ararat to Avoca on Easter Sunday evening and noted a container train through Dunneworthy heading towards Ararat.  BL - X - BL and crawling along...  I'll post a shot when I get a chance.

Was at Sea Lake last weekend. Had a look at station, certain sleepers have been marked with spray paint, looks like they will be the ones replaced during conversion. Other than that no work was seen
