Had a quick look at the new timetables.
less services stopping at North Adelaide, Ovingham, Dudley Park,
Still one hour between services on weekends for those stations.
Still one hour services on weekends.
Weekdays still just 30 minute services even in peak.
A slightly earlier departure from Grange means I can get to my weekly appointment at Glanville thirty minutes faster.
Will check up on my return trip later that night. May make the trip better.
All trains seem to stay at Grange for 12 minutes now instead of 13.
The delay compounder is still in place at Holdens.
Trains heading for Grange still have to wait at Holdens for the inbound service to clear the single line.
A late running up train therefore compounds to a delay for the down train.
A duplication at Port road would allow both trains to be schedule to cross there which would reduce by 50% the stoppage time for traffic on Port Road.
Or if the stationary time at Grange was reduced from 12 minutes to say five you could introduce a twenty minute service in the peak times instead of 30 minutes.
As the current fleet seems to be well utilised I wonder what will be providing these extra services.
Will the NRM be renting out the redhen and jumbo sets?
Last weekend I was held up at Alberton by a three car set full with port fans. It seems like it was at Alberton for a long time. When it finally passed it was jam packed, so obviously delayed to jam in extra passengers. That particular service was only three cars. WHY???? A Saturday one hour before game start so available railcars. Why not four or five cars?
Surely after several years of new services for Adelaide oval games passenger counts would tell them how many cars to run.
Friday the 13th sees another Friday night game.
Previous days have seen trains packed to the rafters. Since the departure of the jumbos the system is placed under immense strain taking people home from the city, ;ate night shopping and footy fans in the other direction.
Once the new services are in place will there be enough rollingstock to provide the services or will there be reduced consists running more often?
I am not confident that the services will work well.
Is this visionary, or are we shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic again?
