South Yarra Station Redevelopment Begins

News article: South Yarra Station Redevelopment Begins

Passengers will soon find it easier to move between trains and trams at South Yarra Station with the Andrews Labor Government announcing a multimillion dollar upgrade of the busy interchange.

Purely window dressing as the station has good accessibility.  What is Toorak road going to look like with a super stop right on the bridge over the tracks jamming up traffic even more?

I wonder if this has been done as a softener for the Metro Tunnel 1 which does not connect with South Yarra?

South Yarra is going to receive a make-over but not courtesy of the MMRA project...
This will be occurring over the next 12 months.
Will be funded through PTV

Probably because the state government would like the Greens to keep hold of Prahran in the November election.

I think the ALP would probably prefer to win it.

How would they do that now?

The ALP are struggling to retain inner seats.  Northcote fell this year.  Brunswick next?

The seat was taken off the ALP in the 2010 election. Looking at the gentrification of Prahran that has occurred over the last twenty years, I can no longer see that seat as being an easy win for the ALP.

If the state LNP wanted to play it’s cards right, it would consider directing preferences to the Greens to keep the ALP out of the seat. Depends on what internal LNP polling about the seat suggest though.

A consolation victory for whoever forms government would be to have that seat as Greens and not one of the majors.

I don't think the ALP will win it; I merely said that would be its choice. Obviously the Greens would be next best.

Currently we have greens installed in:

Melbourne
Prahran
Northcote

Plus they have 4 upper house seats or is it 5?

The Greens have three MLA's and five MLC's.
In addition, they hold the Federal Division of Melbourne.

The area that was the Victorian Labor heartland is now a distant memory.

The Greens were also a 'shoe-in' to win the recent Batman federal by-election, however their infighting soon saw that dream evaporate...consequently the seat not only went to Labor, but it's now safer for Labor than was previously the case.

Don't expect the Greens to do sensationally well in November.

Agreed Mike. In fighting closed them out and Ged won. Snatched defeat from the jaws of Victory.
