A decade ago I would have doubted that a government would have payed someone $1 billion not to build a road. It's only taxpayers money.None. They will require considerable work and even then, it is questionable whether they will be fit for purpose.I doubt they'd pay to pull them out and drag them to the big smoke without checking they'll fit the plan first.
Just out of interest are these two locos being hired off SETS? Also does SETS own an 85 class? Cheers
These two are owned by PN i thought?
Interesting to note coupler mounted on the bogie not the loco body.Supposed to be an advantage of the 46's, and why the wheel arrangement is designated Co+Co, not plain old Co-Co. The bogies are coupled together to take the load, the body just goes along for the ride. Dunno how successful it worked out, since I can't think of any other locos in Australia that did (do) it.
I think the QR 1170 class and the 1150 class had that arrangement as well.Interesting to note coupler mounted on the bogie not the loco body.Supposed to be an advantage of the 46's, and why the wheel arrangement is designated Co+Co, not plain old Co-Co. Only the 1170 class. The 1150 had the normal bogie arrangement.I think the QR 1170 class and the 1150 class had that arrangement as well.Interesting to note coupler mounted on the bogie not the loco body.Supposed to be an advantage of the 46's, and why the wheel arrangement is designated Co+Co, not plain old Co-Co. The underground needs re railing so looks like they may be for this work. SSR recently did some trials with 1200 gen sets and 49 class in underground but still too smoky.Maybe the electric locomotives would be used to deliver the new rails while the overhead Is still energized, than pick up the old rails at a later date ?
Usually the overhead is de energised during re railing so not sure how they could work around that issue.
Thanks br for clarifying. the photos on the web are deceptive as they look similar arrangement to 1170. Must be the headstock i am seeing and I haven't seen a 1150 up close in personal in decades.Only the 1170 class. To say nothing of the South Africans, who purchased 22 Classes of diesels with an interconnected bogie arrangement, but only 5 electric classesInteresting to note coupler mounted on the bogie not the loco body.Supposed to be an advantage of the 46's, and why the wheel arrangement is designated Co+Co, not plain old Co-Co. Update on facebook page NSWRailwaysPastAndPresent with 8606 at Lithgow now with pantographs installed and raised.I was passing from Katoomba to Penrith on a V set the other day and there was a guy sitting in front of me in work clothes and a safety vest talking on his cell phone about installing the pantos on 8606 and 4615 that day and needing to arrange some paths with Sydney Trains to test these locos.
