Long delays yesterday at Seaholme station when pilot drivers were not available to drive a train across the new Seaholme viaduct.  50 minute delays were experienced with pilot drivers arriving by TAXI!

They should have been waiting at the previous station as the pickup and then exit at the post bridge station.

They should have had enough drivers trained on the route so it was not an issue. I got caught up in that mess going to work. Suspect it was a rush to get the line back open, given they did open it a week before scheduled.

Hello All,

the reason is simple, a lack of planning.

The work would have been agreed to months ago, there were probably weekly meeting where it was discussed amongst other items, the time table was known, ( that is the point of a WTT after all ) so there is no excuse for not ensuring that people were in place to pilot the trains as required.

Agreed. They should have put it in the drivers' rosters.

Is there a special role for this?

Anyone know how many new signals were involved in the new piece of track? If the answer is zero then needing training and or a pilot is a bit silly.

Well, there would have to have been signalling changes to protect the new junction arrangements.

I don't know but I guess the first driver essentially trains themselves by doing the test runs?
