We need to stop talking and start building these ast rail projects. Voting shows there is a market for these services removing cars from the road and procondkng an arernative dor fast travel.

NSW and VIC have both announced plans to review. The feds have provided billions for the service between Melbourne and Sydney.

Ah yes, CLARA speaking again - them who want to build a line and then build cities along it.

And no doubt they will be expecting the Federal Government to guarantee their debt - and of course foot the Bill when it fails.

Enough said, nothing to see here people.

I talk about buying a big boat with a fleet of my wish list cars, I'll never stop talking about because I will never be able to afford it and even if I could would it be a wise use of my hard earned money? I could borrow the money from the bank, but they will want it back with interest and none of these assets will generate a positive cash flow or be salable at a higher price than I paid.

"The opportunity to get it right", doesn't mean blowing $100B of borrowed money that will not be paid off for the next 30 years as the Feds already have $400B to pay back first.

Agree de-centralisation has failed because of lack of rapid transit to the city, but with internet and modern communications there is less of a need for this and hence why much of the retail and commercial centre and centralised away from rural areas. Additionally, many of these locations have now, sub 1h flights available to the city multiple times a day. Whats the difference paying an Airline $200 or a railway $200 to get to the city?

NSW has shown very limited interest to even resolve the basics of slow rail regional travel in the state to major centres, so why would it be interested in HSR?

Vic has upgraded its regional network to something half reseasonable mad alot easier due to the terrain, meanwhile they operate some of the oldest passenger trains in Australia to their NE line where much of their regional population is based and other users.

Qld has shown ZERO interest in supporting the population who live just over 120min from Brisbane but south of the border.

Not to mention the fact that this topic has been done to death on about half a billion RP threads already.

Our dodgy opportunity.

CLARA's proposals to date have been dubious and self serving at best.

Don't make me laugh. Australia never, ever does anything right. We somehow feel the need to make sure whatever we have is $hit compared to the rest of the world.
