It is extraordinary that we are talking about buying up farmland when there is excess railway land around the area?  I just cannot believe the mess this ALP has caused with railway land.

Why are we disposing of railway land to developers when clearly the resurgence of the rail network requires access to the land?

The article reads like another NIMBY moaning-fest to me.

We want an improved train service, but put the trains somewhere else. Can’t stand the smell of diesel. The sound of idling v’locities will fade my curtains.

Now we have a new acronym . NIMT (not in my town).

Need about 1-2km of clear land near the rail line for the new yard.
For Traralgon, that's either west housing perimeter, or east housing perimeter.

Guess what, like every other country town (including Morwell where the grumps want it to go) it is farmland (or the sewerage farm).
Pretty much the definition of a country town boundary.

LX is something that can be fixed. Perhaps the NIMTs should concentrate their outrage on that.

I'm sorry bevans but if you're going to try and do some political point scoring on this you're going have to provide more detail on why you think this is a mess and where all this excess railway land is that you talk about (that is useful for a stabling yard).

That article is just a NIMBY whinge-fest which the media seems to lap up these days.

Traralgon East is to me the most logical place to relocate the stabling yards. It would be very similar to what is getting built at Maddingley so we're only talking about a relatively small slither of farmland. It also avoids empty car movements to and from Morwell if it was to be built around the GIFT siding area. There is an argument for stabling to be built at Sale (where there already is usable railway land) but there doesn't seem to be any political will to extend more trains there.
