Hi all, I noticed that X'Trapolis trains are now being used on the Flemington Racecourse Line today for the Melbourne Cup. Is this the first time that they have been cleared to do so?

I believe they were also allowed on the line when the Melbourne Show was on.
This isn't the first day of clearence, I've seen some heading down to the racecourse last Saturday.

Xtraps have been stabled at the Races in the past, so I think they've had clearance for a while, at least for non-rev use.

Xtraps have been running to Flemington racecourse for ages but whether in traffic or just for stabling I am unsure.

Metro tends to run Xtraps on some lines just to show the natives what more modern (but not necessarily better) trains they are not to be given. Craigieburn is but one example.

I wonder how the cup transport went?  Trams were blocked with flooding on the route to Flemington and the trains had issues with delays account the flooding.

According to 3AW the roads were clogged around the racecourse late morning.

The track at Flemington Racecourse platform 1 was flooded out for most of the day so all trains had to use platform 2. As Cup day is one of the only days to require the use of both platforms this meant some trains had to terminate at the Showgrounds instead.
