Fair point, we shouldn't assume MRL will use the same mine plan as Cliffs.  We should be assuming it will be different, as the previous one probably didnt make sense (ie profit).

Yes, it will be really interesting to see if MRL can turn a profit on the operation where Cliffs couldn't.

Was the ore previously exported by MRL the same lower grade as the Cliffs ore? I would presume so as it comes from the same area.

I wonder if MRL still has their customer for the product despite the gap in it's ability to supply.

Will be a fascinating lesson in the economics of running a large commercial operation.

I spent 3 years in copper mines in Chile.  Mine plans are fascinating works of science/art in their own right, and are moving and growing beasts.  As with most industries, its far more complex than it looks, mining included, where its not just digging holes in the ground!

I can believe that. The cost of moving dirt around in a mine would be huge.

And there are different types of dirt to move too....

Who has and why has my post altered? Because I can tell you I haven't altered since my original posting even though it states that "I edited" it at 15:57.

Just a thought, but perhaps the link that you posted was updated at that time.

EDIT - If you click on where it says it was "edited 1 times" it then shows the history, including date/tine and who by.
