Burnley to Camberwell quadruplification

Hawthorn station is heritage listed I'd bet, I don't think you could demolish it that easily.

Getting to Hawthorn by:
Train 9 minutes

If the station wasn't there.
Tram 19 minutes
Walk to Glenferrie + Train 24 minutes.

During peak hours a lot of trains do bypass Hawthorn. The most impact is an extra 10-15 minutes if the train station wasn't there. Reubstar: the impact wouldn't be so great than you think it is.

But this Camberwell Quadruplication project is still years away or may not happen at all? So discussing this topic any further, is really just speculation and guess work. Realistically the Dandenong quadruplication is the project that we should get more attention to, even though that is also under speculation too. I wonder what would it be like if the Dandenong line actually had triplication like the Frankston/Lilydale/Belgrave lines.

I suggested CLOSE Hawthorn Train station, not demolish it.
As it is heritage listed, the platforms and building will remain. I guess the building could be rented out as office space.

Thank you for confirming that Hawthorn Tram to CBD is only 19 minutes.
How many residents of Melbourne can get to the CBD in 19 minutes????
Hawthorn Train Station is simply not required, and should be closed.
My guesstimate is this would reduce travel times for further out train stations by approx 5 minutes.

Reubstar claimed "Hawthorn is designated as a major activity centre of the future".
Whoever made that decision is simply a moron.
It is blatantly obvious Glenferrie / Auburn should be the "major activity centre".

Alternatively you could spend 24 minutes walking to the nearest train station to Glenferrie and catching the train there.

Off peak, take the tram, during peak just take the train from Glenferrie.

Hawthorn isn't the commecial hub, that is Glenferrie.

Hawthorn station is located in Hawthorn West, Glenferrie is located in Hawthorn, and Auburn is located in Hawthorn East. I don't think Hawthorn station will be going any time soon as it is a fair distance between other stations, especially compared to other Zone 1 stations along the line.

Having lived in Hawthorn West for a few years, i would definately take the train instead of the tram. Peak hour trams can be very slow on swan street and bridge road, plus the tram can be very crowded, especially before and after the footy. Can you imagine what trams would be like if all the hawthorn station pax had to catch the 70 and 75 trams? All for a 1 to 2 minute saving for train pax before hawthorn?

About the only time the tram was better was during off peak e.g. after 9pm because train frequencies after this time are so poor and there is no traffic.

Also there are a lot apartments near hawthorn station on burwood road so there is a bit catchment of passengers for hawthorn station.

Glenferrie is more likely to be the activity centre. Hawthorn also sees more passengers than Auburn. It won’t close.

Quadding To Camberwell would mean that the Ringwood Lines Run express and Alamein/future Rowville hopefully or Blackburn stops all stations between Richmond and Camberwell

Quadding to Box Hill and Triplicating then to Ringowod is another issue

You could have triplication to Blackburn - the rebuilt Laburnum station has room for a centre track - but beyond Blackburn the new infrastructure for crossing removals and station rebuilds would appear to preclude triplication.  Would be of dubious benefit anyway.
