Old McKinnon Road boom gates

Not sure where this should go…
Has anyone got a photo of the old (really old) boom gates that used to be at McKinnon station (Melbourne)? I’m not sure when they were replaced with standard booms, but I remember them from the 1950s and 60s. They were of an unusual if not unique design, with a sort of trellis-work structure suspended from the booms which folded together when they were raised and unfolded when they were lowered, forming a sort of fence which would have discouraged people from ducking under the booms.
I tried to search this site just now, but the search facility doesn’t seem to be working.

The site search function has, unfortunately, been broken for ages and shows no sign of coming back to life.

A tip (not claiming it as my idea BTW, was taught to me by others here) is to do a google search with Railpage and then the subject you are searching. So in your case 'Railpage McKinnon boom gates' or similar.

Not a sure thing but works very well for some things, for instance I just tried 'Railpage P20' and it came up straight away with a thread or two.

Hi Kimmus

Probably an archeology question. I vaguely remember these in the late 60's around that area. My grandparents lived in Ormond when I was a kid, so it may have been McKinnon.

Edit: And here you go.

Here's a Weston Langford photo showing the manually operated boom gates at McKinnon lowered.  They were replaced by modern barriers in 1974.

I believe the correct way to do this is to use Google (or other search engine) for "McKinnon boom gates site:Railpage.com.au".

Now there's a photo that dredges up an old memory - good that my old school chum Weston captured it.

Many thanks to RustyRick and duttonbay for the pics.

And to others for search tips — though I had in fact done a Google search with site:Railpage.com.au, without success.
