My uncle who is in the know has said something about containerized hay being moved from Ultima on the Manangatang line. Anybody have anymore info? Not sure how likely and when this would start up.I've heard decent rumours kicking around about this for a while now. I also heard that a siding might be built because V/line doesn't want direct loading of containers onto the train while it's on the mainline.

Why not? Its a low use branch line - if it stops one train I would be surprised. My uncle who is in the know has said something about containerized hay being moved from Ultima on the Manangatang line. Depends on how enthuseastic they are, It will not cost much with second hand points and track. In Benalla, the local track gang installed a set of points and 500 metres track in 5 days. Signalling will unlikely be an issue as they are probably using the same occupancy system as the Oaklands line, where a train gets soul occupancy of a whole section of the line, so signalling is not required. My uncle who is in the know has said something about containerized hay being moved from Ultima on the Manangatang line. A siding, well that is 5 years in Victoria.

V/Line worried that the ghost of Gangers past on a trike might run into a train loading on the mainline which has total occupancy?

Short term thinking. This was done in NSW during the Rail Access Corporation era in several locations. Sometimes now they cause delaysDepends on how enthuseastic they are, It will not cost much with second hand points and track. Probably because if they do mainline loading regularly in NSW it's not good enough to be done down hereDepends on how enthuseastic they are, It will not cost much with second hand points and track. BG, I understand the enabling of extra (some?) traffic as cheaply as possible. This was the thinking in NSW at the time. Also at the time I thought, 'this can cause problems', and so it come to pass. As for 'fix it when it becomes a problem', all stakeholders have long pockets and short armsShort term thinking. This was done in NSW during the Rail Access Corporation era in several locations. This line sees very little traffic. Get something moving on it, if it becomes a problem then fix the problem later. At least you get some revenue happening where now there is none. But oh no, not in Victoria. Instead we bleed the public purse for more $$$ to build a siding (or more likely try to charge the user who instead chooses to use Road).
A solution going looking for a problem.

MMMM....me thinks that Sea Lake and Mangytang are going to remain BG for several years to come.
