Yesterday they also created a symbol on the digital timetables at the stations showing if the train is an NGR. Just looks like a train on tracks with the letters ‘NGR’ below. Not sure what the real point of it will be when all the NGRs get delivered and the older EMUs are out because they’ll make up about a third of the fleet then.

Since the 700's ( with toilets ) have arrived on the Cleveland line a few weeks ago,  I have noted nowadays a 260 is almost always paired with a 160 ( with toilet ) on this line.

As I type in the middle of the morning peak ( 0750 ) passengers from the 0734 NGR set stuck at Wynnum North have now got off the train.  NGR has now continued to town empty.

The 0747 express ( now late ) has stopped at Wynnum North to pick up stranded pax for Morningside onwards and will continue express.  All stations arriving 1 minute later will cater for remaining pax.

The 700's have been on the Cleveland line only on weekdays till now, so no need for assisting staff on weekends.  Today ( Sat 1 Jun )  2 X 700 sets are being used.   I can only vouch for Wynnum and Wynnum North, with assisting staff being available on these 2 stations today.   Will see what happens Sunday.

On Sunday - No 700's nor assisting staff.

I reported earlier that assisting staff are now available all day Saturday at least at Wynnum North and Wynnum for the recent influx of 700's.

Well interesting this weekend...Whole of Cleveland line closed for maintenance for the weekend.  Yesterday, Saturday, assisting staff for 700's still on duty at Wynnum North - FOR NO TRAINS, with a shift change about 1430.

Today ( Thurs ) at 1044,  a double header DEL XXXX + 2152 LE working heading south through Wynnum.  A rare event for daylight hours.  I wonder if there is a stranded electric somewhere further on, most likely Manly, where such problems are usually stowed.  Will keep an eye out for their return to see what they are bringing back, if I am home.

At 1035 today ( Tuesday ) MMY 004 went through UP line at Cleveland.  10 minutes later 2152+2163 LE followed.  Then at 1125, 2152+2163 returned still LE.  Same thing happened last week.

MMY 004 returned through Wynnum at 1225.  Would need its skates on as a suburban service due 7 minutes later

Note the " new " old timetable returns Monday with no change on Cleveland line from almost 3 years ago.

With extra rollingstock and drivers I was hoping for the long awaited 15 minute off peak weekday services to be extended from Cannon Hill ( 13 mins away from here ) to Manly, but no.

With a new library and extra supermarket at Wynnum Central a lot of people particularly the elderly now use the train weekdays.  However the current half hourly inbound and outbound services are only minutes apart at WC.

The outbound one is usually running late and not helped by frequent ( once or twice a week ) Railway and/or general Police raids at WC.  The result is the gates stay down and people laden with shopping cannot get onto the platform for the inbound train which understandably does not wait.

Often the same raids by authorities "clean out" the Cleveland train and walk across to the City train, with prospective pax stuck behind gates.  Then the pax have to wait another 30 minutes often with melting shopping in summer and woeful seating at WC.

A 15 minute service to Manly would help immensely.

Graham,
Since the introduction of the NGR trains with the Guard travelling at the rear of the train and the handicapped pax who need assistance boarding in the middle of the train,  it has been necessary to staff ALL suburban stations now for ALL trains so that a person is on hand for this assistance.  Stations such as my own ( Wynnum North ) were normally only staffed M-F 0500-1200 ( approx ), when tickets were sold. However the new Assisting Staff are not allowed to sell tickets and an appropriate sign is displayed at the ticket office, although the Assisting Staff member may be inside the office.

Hope the change of State Govt next year does not undo all this good work.

Phil,

I was wondering about your description "non qualified ticket selling staff". Kind of implies that they are there to sell tickets, but are not qualified to do so! Laughing

Graham, My guess is these staff are not allowed to handle money, which of course means tickets.  Maybe i should have worded the description better earlier.

Not a good start to the first working day of 2020 on the Cleveland line.  At the time of writing this ( 0800 ) nearing the end of the morning peak, NOT ONE TRAIN HAS RUN......The nearby ( to me ) power substation at Lytton Junction has failed, so no trains this side of Lindum to date.

A sign at my local station shows two extra services commencing Monday 2nd March 2020.  0417 ex Central, and 2024 ex Cleveland.  These are already existing empty services ( both directions ) which now will stop all stations.

3 trains are stored at Manly each night with numerous empties heading to Manly or Cleveland in the mornings.  Likewise in the afternoons and evenings numerous empties return to Town.  Once the extra 15 minute evening services finish normally one heads to Manly for an overnight stay, to be joined there by the returns of the last 2 services of the day to Cleveland.  One of the these final 15 minute services will now form the extra 2024 ex Cleveland service.

QR has laughably bad dead running.  Ipswich line is the worst for it.  More out of service trains along it than in service.

Might be time for rail replacement for about 200 metres or so on the UP line out of Norman Park station.  Quite rough on the uphill departure indicating numerous divots in the rails from wheel slips.

A truck has crashed through the fence onto tracks from the Gordon Parade bridge just outside Manly this morning.  Busses to Lindum from where services to the City are starting.  There is a picture on facebook but I am not putting it 0n here due copyright.
