I have no doubt that her knowledge from the days as Foreign Minister will be gratefully accepted.
We've followed the US to the point where consultancy firms are huge beneficiaries of government programs. No wonder it's a huge employer of ex-politicians/public servants/military personnel. If the US experience is any guide taxpayers may not be getting value for money. It's turned into a really corrupt cabal and right at a time when it needs to become more accountable. The huge amounts of expenditure should ensure some enhanced oversight but instead it goes the other way and everything gets shrouded in secrecy. It's incredibly bad for taxpayers that Pyne went to work for a consultancy charging $100,000,000 a year for 'advice'. You can bet the cost of that 'advice' will only get more expensive.Again, when I look at my country now-days I see somewhat of an Argentina or South Africa progression happening; corruption has become so brazen, large and organised that its putting the very integrity of our government at risk.
Since 9/11 our politicians have steadily moved themselves beyond effective scrutiny. If something may prove controversial or embarrassing make it secret. Australians have less right to know than 23 other nations including the USA and UK.
Democracy cannot function within totalitarian boundaries.
The inevitable has happened - Julie Bishop has taken a non-executive position with Palladium, an international consultancy firm.
I have no doubt that her knowledge from the days as Foreign Minister will be gratefully accepted.
Language is a living thing and this creature certainly has a life of its own.Exactly, all too often too many people in all cultures want to try and fix language in time but failing to acknowledge language was never stagnate.
