Yesterday BL27 ran a rake of 100t grain wagons to Hopeteun where the wagons were the ex freight australia 100t jobs on SG.  The wagons are still in the FA green.

When will they be loading at Hopetoun?

Where did these wagons come from?

When I passed Murtoa and Ararat last week there were large numbers of stored wheat wagons in both yards, must be these two lots combined, or they have come from interstate.

What storage areas does PN now have other than Ararat yard (could use more capacity) and Dimboola and Murtoa as Maryborough is no longer available thanks to issues with the MBRP.

Ararat does not have a crew depot for PN or does it?

Can 100t run on the Mildura line?

They can run the 100t wagons pretty much everywhere, kicker is the loaded weight will be low. 100t gross = 25t axle load, and i guess the mainline Melbourne to Adelaide possibly has that, but i didn't think so, and definitely none of the branch lines.

If they where going out to Hopetoun, i would expect the BL will take the wagons out to the end of the line past the sand loading equipment and leave them there. There's a pretty good sized area you would probably fit 20 of those wagons for storage.

If it wasn't otherwise closed/booked out, would expect they would be looking to go out the Yaapeet line and push the wagons for storage out past the end of the Balks at Rainbow.

These may be the 100t wagons that were stored at Westmere for a number of years.
If this is the case, it may pave the way for Westmere to once again move grain by rail. There is a large bunker storage system there, and the Western District looks to be having a bumper season.

I dont know why they dont run up into NSW, say to places like Junee/Coota/Harden/Henty etc which are on the mainline and so should be able to operate at full loadings for a lot of the time, even if they run to Kembla?

I don't think he is having a crack at you, he/she is asking questions.

You would be able to store wagons in any operational siding, as long as it doesn't interfere with other operators.

AFAIK, no PN depot at Ararat.

Thx for providing the info guys.

Sounds like the wagons have come out of storage for a larger harvest in Victoria.

We now have Qube, PN and SSR all with grain operating trains and maybe GWA if the harvest is larger than expected?

thx I do not know a lot about the 100t wagons nor where Pn works out of but do understand that a depot at Maryborough cannot stable trains which could mean they come in and out of Ararat or Horsham or Dimboola making it a lot more costly for the operator.
