Daryl I think that graphic is supposed to say look at all the other countries'  high speed then say wait Australia only has this longer distance electric set that is so so slow compared.  Aussie  deadpan humor I say.

That is a V set that ran between Sydney and Newcastle. Not the fastest unit, as pointed out QR have faster electric units.

For the German ICE you can add.

Filthy windows...outside and in.

Streaks of dead insect matter mixed with rain along the sides of the cars.

Dirty and soiled/stained carpets and furnishings...even in 1st class.

Irregularly cleaned toilets.

Front of the train plastered in dead insects.

I know because I've seen all this in the last few months.

Gee, much must've changed in the 16 years since I last went on a German ICE.  I was very impressed with it back then.

You must have struck a bad time. I was there in 2011, 2012, and again in August this year, and I found them to be excellent on every occasion.

I travel for business on the German ICE maybe six times per year and both TGV and ICE go past on my local line in Switzerland (150m from my house), so I see them often.

Internally ICEs they are usually OK, externally occasionally dirty and graffiti covered, with the only removal attempt to make the set trafficable. It seems like the ones coming from Hamburg are the worst (a long way) and look a bit rough. These long distance sets from my observation are turned and sent back without cleaning, except for a walkthrough at Basel (maybe Zurich too). Therefore on the return trip they would be filthy, even if they started the day pristine.

TGVs are always externally nice, internally OK too.

Just my observations as a "local". Example pics from my collection, Mannheim and Basel, snagging the world record holder Smile:

I believe the Maglev to Shanghai airport is the fastest train in the world.
