Agree with those comments and make the point again we do not want those velocities on the Albury service. We need better trains than this proposal.
You might want better trains on longer distance services than V/Locities but after 5 years of promising a new generation country train, that is what Government has come up with .
Now realistically the VL is a very reliable and proven train type which can run on existing country tracks wuth adequate lx protection at around 15 kmh higher than existing loco hauled speeds . So 130kmh on Class 2 track, 115kmh on Class 3 track and 95 kmh on Class-4 track .
It makes a lot of sense from a maintenance and spares situation to have an all VL fleet BUT we need two types :
1. Inter City sets with greater provision for luggage space, wider seats, and catering facilities and Inter urban as now strictly for the Commuter runs.
2. Then a Warrnambool VL set can attach to a Commuter set which gets dropped off / attached at Waurn Ponds; Bendigo for Swan Hill, Seymour for Shepparton and Traralgon for Bairnsdale .
