Port Rail Shuttles For Melbourne At Last

“The government, VICT argues, “should take the lead to develop a much wider plan to optimise the existing links between the port area and the intermodal freight hubs in greater Melbourne locations such as Dandenong, Camberwell and Altona." I agree - first I've heard of a Camberwell IFH BTW.

Do you think they are geographically confused and mean Campbellfield?

Not too much heavy industry in Camberwell!

That sounds right to me, although Camber*well* must once have had a goods siding or two

Yes they would have to be thinking of Campbellfield, probably the former Ford factory Industrial complex.

Maybe they mean the disused  facility at Somerton (Vampbelfield) which has all these SG sidings and is ab ideal spot for Port Shuttles.

Note above a company has recently moved into the facility at Campellfield which is the location I also think they mean.  The concern is we do not have an intermodal terminal at Dandenong which is badly needed.  There is also the GIFT terminal which has not been progressed for years.  These eastern terminals are most definitely required to address the 1000's of trucks per day on the Monash.

Some of this traffic could be going interstate and not always to the port so the ability to tranship in the yards between gauges would be ideal.

Based upon my firmly held belief that none of this will ever happen I can assure you that Dandenong will be after that. Smile

Aware I have been equally as skeptical in relation to this topic and you may well be correct.  However, what is the cost to the Port of Melbourne without the project being completed.  The cost is just too high and therefore the risk to the position in the national port space where Melbourne leads will be under increased threat.

In other words, this project is required to ensure the port remains competitive again the likes of Port Botany something I am certain is at the front of thinking for the new Port Owners.

Not least the issue is also the increased focus on rail the inland rail project will bring and with out this project traffic will flow north not south to a port.

Well, Some believe that was unneeded in the first place. Laughing

Now we actually have some good news involving the dock lines what do we believe the scope will be?

West Swanston Dock (limited access), Swanston Dock (currently no rail), Appleton Dock (some rail), and Victoria Dock (no current rail access)

Another glossy report that will probably amount to nothing.  It is an absolute joke that A-doubles are allowed in peak hour traffic and it is only a matter of time before Road Trains are allowed on the Hume.
