Starting from TomBTR's rather obscure clues, a reverse-engineering of every possible "northern" station and a deep dredge of several pages of Google threw up (so to speak) this reference: http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/scott-thomas-alison-2644 which explains Alison's involvement with Tom Scott (who??) and also the cane connection, leading us to T A SCOTT, who was apparently an early starter in Australia's sugar industry.
My second tease, "............ point, Clare .............!" simply refers to Tascott's rail-connected neighbour just up the line.
I'll let TomBTR decide if there's a winner for this one ......... I'm off to find some headache tablets!
