What we probably all thought about dodgy project and the misuse of millions of taxpayer dollars gone into the pockets of the contractors and somehow V/line staff who would have to sign off we’re. Paid to turn a blind eye.

This is a huge deal for the state and the authorises should get to the bottom
Of this and find out where the money has gone.

Agree this will be very very interesting if and I say if IBAC take it on.  We might finally get some insight into how Vline actually fail to manage their projects effectively.

IBAC will *not* take it on unless there is an allegation of corruption.

I would have expected the complaint to include allegations of corrupt dealings, but all the ABC report says is 'The statement has accused the consortium behind the project of overcharging the Government for works done, and alleges it involved "poor-quality construction, poor design and costly project management".' None of this implies corruption. It's hard to know if there is a fire, or if the reporter and the complainant simply do not understand the regulatory framework.

If the problem is poor management, the proper organisation to deal with the complaint is VAGO. I would note in another part of the article that 'Victoria's Auditor General is due to release a report into the project on Wednesday.' So you'll probably get your wish tomorrow.

It would be corruption if the managers at Vline in charge of the project for the government allowed this to happen in return for being looked after. In any case the VAGO report on the project is shocking and I cannot see myself how this would have been allowed to happen on the desk of a competent project manager at Vline.

Farmers Federation calls for renewed focus on rail project during coronavirus pandemic.

Victorian Farmers Federation president David Jochinke has called on the state government to prioritise fully funding the Murray Basin Rail Project, to help stablise the state's economy during the coronavirus pandemic.

It follows the Victorian Auditor-General's Office concluding recent upgrades to regional railways are now "not yet improving rural freight outcomes in a timely and cost-efficient way".

In a report released on Wednesday, the VAGO said the state government's $440 million Murray Basin Rail Project had not met scope, time, cost or quality expectations set.
