The corona virus COVID-19

Within Australia, Health is dual Federal/State/Territory controlled. That has nothing to do with Border Protection.
Morrison and Dutton are happy to boast about border protection when it suits them. This time, they had nothing to boast about and remembered their studies in Buck-Passing 101
Most of us are talking about the management of a boat. You keep talking about illegal immigrants. OK, have it your way. If you want to compare numbers, why don't you tell the whole truth? Like the 100,000 illegals that have arrived by plane in the past five years? Or are you just going to talk about boats again?
DirtyBallast
Well considering the bulk of the LNP's Border Protection CV they throw around at election time is based on mostly one activity, the same activity which you are now talking down, then use we are talking about illegal immigrants from boats.

Neither side have been held accountable during an election campaign on illegals who come through the front door.

For God's sake, it is linked to illegal immigrants because you singled them out and, as I said at the time, it was irrelevant.

The point is quite simple; whether it's illegal immigrants or Ruby Princess or Old Uncle Tom Cobley, it's all bloody border protection.

You talk about boats legally in Australian waters and nobody has disputed this. But, there is a vast difference between Australian waters and the frontier which passengers have to cross. The Feds failed at the frontier.  The NSW Premier could have denied landing rights no doubt, but she's not clairvoyant would have had no reason to believe that the Feds would fail to do their job properly. Suggesting now what she should have done is pure hindsight, but at least the WA Premier learnt from it that his Federal brethren couldn't be trusted.

If the Feds want to boast about border protection, they have to do all of it; not just the boat people. One wonders why this is so difficult to comprehend.

You went on about the LNP's credibility of border protection in taters, which historically is all based on just one thing, illegal immigrants via boats.

Ohh, the NSW Premier had no idea what the feds would do so she just stood back and let them anyway.

"One wonders why this is so difficult to comprehend". Its simple, not sure why you are not getting it.

From reports

But the Ruby Princess passengers weren't screened and were unmonitored when they left the ship.
I think we both should agree, this shouldn't have happened

About a third were international passengers - they were told they could travel overseas immediately or self-isolate in Sydney for a fortnight.
Great, most of the foreigners likely left ASAP, doesn't help those on the plane with them.

"They even said, you can get a train home," said Ms McCafferty.
Standard practice for people arriving from planes at the time

New South Wales health officials have said they followed national guidelines which allow passengers to disembark if the route is considered "low risk". The Ruby Princess was given that status because it had been to New Zealand only.

Ruby was except because it had only been to Jacinta'ville.

Others noted that while Canberra had enacted a ban on cruise ships arriving, it had allowed four including the Ruby Princess to be exempt.
So not entirely asleep at the wheel, calculated decision has been made.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard told reporters on Saturday: "With the benefit of what we now know... I'd have said 'yeah, maybe we should hold them on the ship.'"

Now we are getting down to it.

Anyway, I think we are done here so lets move on!

I think now, more than ever, we need a good prime minister who, when faced with a difficult situation, just acts on it a soon as possible
We need a prime minister like John Howard or John Curtin, both of whom were not perfect, but when faced with a major situation just acted on it the right way and, in the case of the latter, managed to bring both parties together to decide on and achieve a result that would be beneficial to all.
We need one who doesn't blame the state governments for his or her own mistakes, one who isn't from marketing, one who doesn't say that he sends his children to independent schools to prevent false information being spread to his children through public schools.

Could we have a prime minister that acknowledges climate change, one that doesn't change every 4 years and one that actually has leadership for his own country for once

Yeah well I tend to agree with most of what you say.

However I think your dislike against private schools is bit far fetched and I very much doubt you will find a PM who sends their kids to govt schools as they have the money to offer their kids more. As someone who went to both in the 80's, I can tell you back then in the govt system there were teachers who pushed down your throat political their agendas. I even saw kids in Yr 8 walk out of the class when one went on again about Aboriginal welfare in Alice Springs. The private system is not immune, but certainly was not as obvious from my experience.

As far as duration is concerned, we haven't had a PM that lasted 4 years since Howard, so I think most would be happy to see the same PM contest back to back elections. SCOMO is there today because the LNP made a stupid mistake in replacing TA, not saying TA should have stayed, but letting MT in was stupid. SCOMO is there because he was the one MT trusted the most and one who both sides of the LNP could agree they didn't have anyone better or want to risk at the unwinnable election and ALP was stupid to let one of the most unpopular Opposition leaders on record, Billy be their leader at an election.

Other issues include
- the Uni Chancellors encouraging the spread via students returning from China and not just Aust, but 3rd countries as well.
- Getting tough up front on self isolation, people should have been issued a legal notice, 5 figure fines that are actually enforced and random checks.
- Closure of many public activities quickly
- Closure of the border faster.
Uni Vice Chancellors were trying desperately to protect their seven-figure pay packets and they didn't give a damn about potentially exposing domestic students to infectious people from overseas.

South Australian Police are now fining people for not being at home when they're supposed to be - I believe the other states are already doing that.
don_dunstan
Is that people known or suspected to be sick or anyone?

Here is the UAE list of fines regarding CV-19.

A$1 = 2.2 AED.

you decided it meant illegal immigrants. I didn't, and said so.

If you can't be sensible, try to be funny.

It's no wonder that so many PM's refer to "The Know-All from half-way around the world."

Moderators, can this thread be left just to the topic of Covid-19 and its effects, treatments, news etc. And not be about ships, blame and politics please?

1. Fair enough
2. The phone is a useful tool and I thought the previous article was quite clear on who's responsible for medical assessments.
3. Seems a bit one sided don't you think!

Again, I think its time to move on!
