There have been massive large scale riots over in Minnesota for the past 3 days, over the murder of Minnesota man George Floyd by a police constable, just in the past hour or so, the Minnesota 3rd Precinct Police building has been set on fire, I understand the National Guard has been called in to assist with the situation.

Believe there to be multiple police stations on fire.

The entire video of the arrest and murder (i mean murder) of George Floyd has been released onto the internet and I am very upset about how he was treated.  We have seen similar in Australia in recent years with police brutality but no deaths to speak of,.  When you watch the video it really does look like the police dislike black Americans.

It's incidents like this one with George Floyd that baffle me. Why is it that some (at least) American Police Forces seem constitutionally incapable of training their officers properly? Is it dumb recruits, dumb leaders or both?

By "dumb recruits" I meant recruiting dumb people, not this clown being a new recruit.

Just to be clear, the President doesn't have the authority to either send in regular military or countermand a state governor's orders to their National Guard units.

I expect that these tweets will soon have the appropriate fact checks added.

What is it about Minnesota?

One of our expats, Justine Damond, tragically, was shot and killed by a police officer not too long ago and she was white.
  mejhammers1 Chief Commissioner

And there you have it. As tragic as Damonds killing was the Somalian Police officer is in Jail serving 15 to 20 years and rightly so.

I can give you a long list of innocent black people shot. Just as I thought. You are just a racist fool.

Says a lot about their police force over there.. I've seen video of an unarmed bloke, running away from the police officer shot in the back. He was originally pulled over for a broken taillight...Shocked

You are more likely to be shot & killed by a police officer in the USA than killed by a terrorist but they've invaded countries to stop terrorism before.....

Actually watched a US cop show last night.
A common theme was,
I’ll put the cuffs on you for your own protection, WTF will the cuffs protect me from?

I am quite late to finding out about this but the one main thing that struck me is the fact that that officer basically sat on Floyd's neck for nearly 10 minutes, at least 4 of which he was fully unconscious

I have seen so many videos on reddit of similar occasions,  a 14 year old boy that had drugs placed on him by a cop and then got his neck snapped by the cop, permanently paralysing him, a 15 year old bashed to the ground by security guards at a mental hospital leaving him with 8 broken bones

These sort of crimes will continue at far higher rates unless a major investigation by both the US government or the FBI is carried out

Apparently this cop has been charged with the murder of George Floyd, and so he ought to be!

It helps to know what you are talking about, Noor is in gaol for 12.5 years, so you can lose some butt hurt over the 15-20.

Chauvin will be gaoled too, hold your horses, this was still only a hand full of days ago, I know that’s not fast enough for your current levels of confected outrage, but you need to leave yourself somewhere to go in case they jump too quick and blow the arrest/evidence and Chauvin ends up back out, or worse, acquitted.

It took authorities nearly six months to get charges laid against Noor before a grand jury, and he was sentenced until about two years or so after the killing. So on the face of it, justice is (so far) happening quicker here for George Floyd.

According to the news I have not read, Trump has ‘back-pedalled on the shooting threat to rioters’...

Mike Tyson sent out a now-deleted tweet saying that if white people rioted every time a black man killed one of them that there would never be any peace.

Don, Ordinary white people kill black people from time to time, and Ordinary Black people kill white people from time to time. Again what point are you making Don? This is the Police Don. You are going on as if this is the only death of a black person at the hands of the police. Was there rioting for Botham John, Attaianna Jefferies, Trayvon Martin? No there wasn't

I am in no way condoning rioting, it is destructive and pointless, but please do us a favour Don, read the statistics about Minneapolis Don, and then you will get an understanding as to why black people are pissed off.

Too many police forces in USA, mainly financed by local municipal rates and taxes. In the case of very small jurisdictions, it's a wonder there is any training at all. In this very sad instance the Police Department was that of Minneapolis City. There must be an element of mindset as well. Attitudes and prejudice are harder to overcome in short in-service training. Who yet knows what the state of the previous relationship between the two men was?

How clever of the rioters in Minnestoa to burn down a $30 million affordable housing project that was almost completed - intended to house disadvantaged people in long term poverty. Twin Cities Business:

St. Paul-based developer Wellington Management Inc. woke up on Thursday morning to find its under-construction, 190-unit apartment project in its Minnehaha Commons redevelopment near the intersection of Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue in south Minneapolis had been torched and burned to the ground.

The six-story, 190-unit affordable housing project had been slated to open in the spring of 2021. A city of Minneapolis worksheet on the project listed the total development cost at approximately $37 million, including contingency and reserve funds; land and construction costs were about $30 million. The apartment project has been known as Midtown Corner.

And yet there's people on this board who are still prepared to defend the actions of the rioters.

Yeah, trust you to jump to the defence of someone who is comfortable with endemic racism. But that's to be expected of someone who clutched their pearls because a racist muppet called Fraser Anning got a pie in the face!

So Noor got 12.5 years, so I got that wrong, big deal. The point is the Police Authorities did the right thing and did not ring fence Noor (I wonder why?). Damond's family got $20 Million in settlement. And rightly so.

But, guess what Philando Castille's family got who was shot a week earlier. The family $3 Million and the Girlfriend who was in the car with her CHILD when it happened a lousy $800,000. That officer (Yanez) was acquitted, that just says it all, and here you are losing it because I said 15-20 rather than 12.5 years handed to Noor. Of course in your eyes, blacks and whites are treated equally.

Of course they have to move fast on this one. A man was held for an alleged forgery, by 4 officers, he was not resisting arrest, is forced on to the ground and had an officer's knee on his throat. He is saying he cant breathe and he is ignored and dies and he is dragged when he is limp on the ground. And it was captured on video.

It was a cold and calculated murder of a black man, over a forged note. Too right I am outraged. Confected outrage, yeah whatever!
