Labor MP Julia Finn has quit the NSW shadow cabinet after she was named in an internal investigation into branch stacking in western Sydney.
Ms Finn said in a statement on Friday afternoon she had informed leader Jodi McKay she would be standing aside as Labor's spokeswoman for carers and consumer protection, but said she maintained her innocence.
Ms Finn, the member for the western Sydney seat of Granville, indicated she was looking to clear her name, paving the way for a possible return to the frontbench, by further pursuing the matter internally.
“I have asked the NSW ALP’s internal tribunal to urgently consider matters raised about me in an anonymous dossier and in the Moorhead independent review," she said.
"I have asked that any steps required for this to happen be taken. I maintain my innocence of any wrongdoing, as was the finding of the independent review."

Michael O'Brien, the Libs leader and Leader of the Victorian Opposition is the best thing the Party has going for it . . . the Labor Party that is.

News today Daniel Andrews is slipping in the poles due to his handling of the coronavirus issues in Victoria.  Why is he being judged so harshly on a virus which was not of his making and is spreading due to the lawlessness of some people in the community.

I think that his arrogance, complete lack of warmth and empathy, refusal to answer direct questions, strong links to the Chinese Communist Party, the branch stacking affair of which he claims to know nothing although he will be the main political beneficiary, the tunnel fiasco, the CFA fiasco, the whirlpool of debt, his lack of leadership in not stopping the protest, and the complete abandonment of country Victoria during the pandemic and after the fires are all contributing to his decline in popularity. The silent majority are still there.

Just wait until the budget. His outlandish promises to Fire Rescue Victoria will further cripple the State, which is staggering financially. All his promises to unions cannot be afforded, and there will be lots of discontent later in the year. This State is near breaking point and the Commonwealth can't afford to bale us out.

I think the pandemic opened people eyes to the huge responsibilities of the States. Our State Government continues to sidestep issues by blaming the Commonwealth. Governments at all levels are being forced to make poor decisions to gain the votes of fringe parties. Troubled times ahead.

The post by brownhillboy has obviously been put together with a good deal of thought. His list of Andrews' problems is comprehensive, and would spell trouble for the ALP at the ballot box, if Average Fred took the time to actually stop and consider everything. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to happen, as witness the number of people you hear who are single-issue minded. The bigger picture doesn't seem to enter into it.
For example, the "CFA fiasco" starts tomorrow amidst a deafening silence. Nobody is talking about branch stacking or most of the other issues brownhillboy listed.

As I write, the only thing on people's minds appears to be COVID-19, which has effectively drowned out just about everything else.  If, and it's a big if, Victoria had an effective opposition leader, things might be different. As it is, O'Brien is coming across as that worst of all Australian epithets; a whinger. First, he screamed that Andrews should have relaxed the lockdown earlier, and two weeks later was saying that the restrictions had been relaxed too soon, and the Army should have called in earlier. Each comment is a reaction; nothing of his is proactive.

"The silent majority" is indeed there, but experience suggests that it is the "doesn't affect me" majority. A big scandal a month before the election is O'Brien's best hope.

There's no chance I could vote for a party if he is the figurehead following the fundamental failures of process.

The biggest mistakes are probably for the future in other states by not learning from mistakes here in Victoria
