Oscar H-Set 2021 suburban

    Hi everyone,

    I was wondering what lines will the Oscars run on next year when they convert to being suburban trains as I have not found any info on what lines they will run on as suburban trains.

    Given the project to move them from Intercity hasn't even started yet, I think it might be best to hold your horses. At this juncture anything that is said is piss and wind until there's some official confirmation.

    As everyone would be aware, the next Suburban Rolling Stock to retire are the K sets (40 x 4car sets) and C sets (14 x 4car sets), both operating in Sector 2, very close to the equivalent of 55 x 4car OSCAR sets.

    However, with another 17 x 8car B sets soon to be added to increase the Service Level, there is bound to be a shuffle between Sectors 2 and 3 to mix the set types: A & B, to accommodate H sets on Sector 3 where Crews are mainly qualified.

    H sets may run Sector 2, if they decide to qualify Crews in that Sector to operate OSCAR sets.
    Some H sets may run on Sector 1, as the Waterfall and Mortdale Crews are qualified, and the Sets are maintained at Eveleigh.

    Tangara sets should remain spread between Sector 1 and Sector 3, but possibly with a change in the ratio between the two Sectors.

    At some point soon most T sets will probably be removed from T1/T9 service to allow for increased services on the T4, they will probably be replaced with the new B sets.

    I would expect the OSCars to be primarily used on the T2, T3, T8 and T7 as they will be replacing the C and K sets that operate on those lines.

    I have heard that the scope of the overhaul includes removing the toilets, replacing seats with A set style seats and a new livery, one plan that I have been unable to find again shows the blue on the front replaced with orange to go with the Sydney Trains corporate style

    As s3 says, anything related to the overhaul should be considered hearsay unless it is from an informed source who is associated with Sydney Trains

    Fair point.

    T72 and T106 have been honking "under test" stickers for more than 2 years now. Perhaps they're training drivers so other sets. may not need a long test lead time?

    There may have been a change of mind re upgrading the Tangaras. Just a rumour at the moment but watch this space. More B sets?

    Wow that’s a pretty big change if it turns out to be true.

    I would have loved to see the upgraded Tangaras, but the Waratahs are undoubtedly better trains and I won’t miss the bumpy ride along the main line.. Also those windows. Surprised

    I wonder how theyd make up the shortfall (?) of rolling stock though.

    Haven't heard a rumour since 9am...

    Agree with Totoro tho, would be big if it turned out to be true, even if it is just more B Sets. Not sure the contract allows for that many Bs tho.

    The production is still in progress so it's theoretically extendable at the same per-set cost.  I like Waratahs.  The seats are comfortable with seat backs adjustable so all seats can face the direction of travel.  The electric control sounds like IGBT which is efficient and smooth if my assumption is correct.
