Does anybody know how often this new service is likely to operate?
Recorded as running only once last week on the wednesday as 4KM1. Ran yesterday as we saw above.
The service is currently in a trial phase. There are some issues that need to be sorted out at the Bordertown end. The plan is to run it 5 times a week eventually.Does anybody know how often this new service is likely to operate? It's looking like one return trip a week at the moment.

Can I ask where the logs come from please ?Well Bill, apart from trees as been mentioned a few times, there are plantations more or less from Bordertown right down to Mt Gambier and throughout the South West District of Victoria, that is both Hard Wood and Pine.
An interesting article has appeared in today's ABC News website about log exports from Bordertown and Portland.
Judging by the photo, there is a large stockpile accumulating at Bordertown.

Nice pickup Shunter, presuming the search function hasn't come back from the dead you either have a bloody good memory or too much time on your hands to google RP threads! Can I ask where the logs come from please ?Well Bill, apart from trees as been mentioned a few times, there are plantations more or less from Bordertown right down to Mt Gambier and throughout the South West District of Victoria, that is both Hard Wood and Pine.
Also in the link Jack has supplied on page 2 there are some interesting photo's of the line from Heywood, West to around Dartmoor, including the bridge over the Glenelg River.

In the last few page of the thread you also have a bit to say, Bill and you will see why I have always referred to as Bill.

Looks like freightgate has not only forgotten what he posted way back then but has developed a case of shyness over the years![]()
Interesting discussions. The following is a recent image from google maps:The layout at http://www.sa-trackandsignal.net/Pdf%20files/ARTC/AR112.pdf looks right from my memory, and was last updated 2019. So answer to 1. appears to be just one; and 2. yes and no.
this shows the logs piled at the up end of Bordertown yard. A couple of quwstions (perhaps Bingley can assist):
1. how many roads are in the yard and how many of these are available for the intermodal terminal?
2. There is a siding into the grain storage from the down end, is this also connected to the UP end?
60 contains is 60 less trucks on the highway between the Vic/SA Border and the ports showing rail can work.
Looking at the map above and comments would it be a better idea to create an intermodal terminal off the line to Penola at Wolsley were space could me leased from a farner of purchaed?
The site seems quite busy and not a lot of room left?
Just had word from old mate at Bordertown, another log train tomorrow with 60, he said wagons, not sure whether he means containers, guess we will find out. He said he was talking to the manager in the Bottleshop....Just spotted the Bordertown bound train at Dimboola with two Gs on the front and 50 wagons.I knew there had to be more than 1 reason to hit the bottleshop !
BigShunter.
my mistake, 60 containers.
