What is desperately needed is 2 extra staging roads at Maryborough and re activation of the fuel point. Running trains from Geelong to stage in Murtoa to Ouyen back to Murtoa to stage again before heading to port is absolutely absurd. At least 2 extra crews / extra fuel / track access and maintenance has taken out all efficiency. Surely it’s not that hard to put some track back at Maryborough some stop boards and a couple of sets of points ?
according to a mate, Right up until MBRP kicked into gear Maryborough was extremely busy with up to 4 trains stabled at once during the grain season. And it still is decently busy, just it cant be used as a staging area anymore.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again, Standardisation is a burden for the region until MBRP is properly completed.
This is what ive gathered that needs to be done-
-lift the TSRs littered along the track
-expand the stabling capacity near Merbein
-more siding capacity at Ouyen needed (the yard was well rationalised as part of MRBP)
-expand the Maryborough yard (which was reduced by MBRP) by 2 roads and re activate the fuel point
-finish the Manangatang and Sea Lake standardisation PROPERLY
-maybe build a passing loop near Amphitheatre or closer to Ararat?
-lift the speed limit along the Avoca line to 65kph by properly finishing the Avoca line instead of doing it half ar$e (as is the norm for country line upgrades)
