We have not heard a lot about how the grain growers are going in SA but if it is anything like Victoria at the moment it should be looking good.

shows even more rain coming.

Hopefully a good harvest, though rain at this time may not be conducive.

Shame it will mostly end up in trucks.

I'd say most areas have had more than enough over the last week or so, and as you suggest anymore substantial falls would not be a good thing.

I note this morning the media is suggesting a months rain has fallen in a day.

Even the few local grain trains that do run will simply not be worth photographing, especially south where gwu’s will no doubt dominate.

Thank you for giving me insight into the thinking of many rail "enthusiasts".

Don't worry about Rail's efficiency, possible profit or loss, or historical significance. It's all OK if we get our photographs.

Trains are only run for the benefit of photographers!

What's wrong with GWU's anyway?  Infinitely more interesting than a procession of B-Doubles intermittently barreling down and chewing up the public highways.

It was a fair comment. The rail enthusiast community is a broad church. I am unaware of any law that says only the efficiency and profit of railways can be commented on here?

My camera only comes out of hibernation maybe half a dozen times a year these days, so there's some historical perspective for you Razz

Utterly meaningless! Rain is measured in mm not months.

Why cannot the media say ## mm of rain fell at xxxxxx in the 24 hours to 1200 Thursday 8/10?

How the hell do we know how much rain should fall at xxxxxx in a month?

I agree. The comment is perhaps meant to indicate that the amount of rain in 24 hours is the equivalent to 30 days. A better statement would be "30mm of rain fell on Thursday 8/10, which is the average monthly rainfall for October". The Weather Bureau seems to consider a day is the 24 hours from 9am to 9am.

The reason you don't get an accurate comprehensive statement about rainfall is because it is beyond the attention span of the average journalist

Rain should always be measured in either Olympic swimming pools or Sydney Harbours.

Anything else just creates confusion.

Grain trains are also running down south.  I have seen several in the last four weeks.
