    Location: Melbourne, Australia
    EL61 was we believe the lead locomotive.

    Two persons from the truck are said to be trapped with injuries while a train driver is believed to have sustained facial injuries.

    The collision has taken place on Vite Vite Road at Mercers Road.

    Trains expected through the area would probably be 7PM9 currently at the border.  Next down would probably be the MP9

    Emergency services are responding to a train accident involving a truck in Vite Vite.

    Two persons from the truck are said to be trapped with injuries while a train driver is believed to have sustained facial injuries.

    The collision has taken place on Vite Vite Road at Mercers Road.

    An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson has confirmed, paramedics are treating two people.

    Who would be a train driver? Every day at the mercy of irresponsible driver behavior at level crossings. Looks like these two train drivers have had a lucky escape this time.

    How many more incidents like this need to happen before the authorities wake up and start throwing the book at those responsible for incidents such as this?

    No crossing lights on the Mercer Rd LX (or Vite Vite Rd LX for that matter) according to Google Streetview in 2008.  

    Sight lines to the East are blocked by a windbreak of eucalypts, but as this was an Up service, I assume the train was heading that way instead and sight lines to the West are over open grassland.

    Beats me why they didn't look and stop - I agree, the authorities should throw the book at truck drivers involved in these and similar incidents more often.

    EL55 was activated last evening appearing on the radar confirming the train has not moved through to Gheringhap yet.  Vite Vite still the location.

    I am a bit confused by something:

    This collision happened 2 days ago, on Tuesday afternoon. Yet according to Gheringhap Loop's sightings page, the Western SG line through Gheringhap wasn't affected until today (Thursday) With a total of 14 Standard Gauge movements through Gheringhap yesterday (Wednesday) and next to none today due to the recovery of the damaged train.

    How does that work?

    If the Truckies were in the wrong , they should be charged and the trucking company forced to pay for damages and costs of the disruption of freight services on the line.
    Maybe I'm wrong but the trucking industry are not held enough to account for the damage they do to infrastructure and rail staff.

    EL61 via the cameras showing the damage sustained.  The train was on its way to Melbourne last night
