Could be a chance or two in the track cycling - something we are good at and at which we have succeeded at previous Games.

Certainly a few chances as there are a number of racing events (as opposed to timed events) where anything can happen, but I wouldn’t say Australia have a favourite in any event.

Even the Men’s Team Pursuit, traditionally treated as a blue ribbon event for Australia, is now an event where Denmark is the favourite and Australia is one of a closely matched group of countries probably racing for second.

The women’s Team Pursuit squad is strong on paper with four of our best five riding (triple world champion Amy Cure retired rather than commit to another year of preparation) but they’ll be up against it after Germany just took 3 seconds off the world record in their qualifying run.

Sprint teams are weak this year, getting even one medal of any colour from the five events entered will be a success.

So, apparently a few Australian Olympians decided to get pissed and trash the hotel in which they were staying. I am well and truly embarrassed to be even associated with this country.

Not condoning their actions at all, but can it be said in all honesty that Olympians from no other nation have acted similarly?

Truly embarrassed Shocked really bit dramatic isn't. A few few blokes get tanked up after competing in an olympic event, blow a bit of steam and your are truly embarrassed to be associated with this country......... crickey  should we horse whip them for this ?

Bloody Germans pinched our kangaroo statues, wonder if the German's are enraged at their team members for that outrageous act ? Bit of horsing around should be banned then !

They've proven yet again that many Aussies are disrespectful and feral guests to their gracious hosts.  Name and shame them.

They had it sewn up already, but went out and won the final race anyway. That really showed which crew was the best.

It has been a marvellous games for the vast majority of Australian who participated and who proudly represented their country.

Sadly, there always seems a bogan element who let the country down in the eyes of the world. For this there is no excuse.

At these games that minority has gone out of its way to present Australia to the world as a race of uncouth, drunken barbarians:
  • The broadcasting of a four letter word to the world
  • Trashing the hotel in Tokyo
  • Trashing the flight home from Tokyo
Admittedly the airline should have stopped plying this mob with booze long before they had a chance to perform to muck metal medal standards.

The Chef de Mission was reported as admitting that rather than the airline plying these bogans with booze, they were raiding the aircraft supplies and helping themselves.

Then of course, we have the usual "sports apologist" who asks us to show some understanding. I'd like to challenge him to pinch a car or do a hold up, and tell the magistrate that "I've been locked up for so long, and needed to let off steam. Show some understanding."

Bloody Septics....

Opals knocked out by USA in QF
Matildas vs USA for bronze
Boomers vs USA for a place in the final
Womens' Beach Volleyball vs USA for gold

The Kookaburras just have to deal with the beer swilling monks for gold Razz

Anyone else interferring with the aircraft or its crew would have a hundred Federal cops waiting for them at the airport on arrival.

It's only the 'little person' that gets the book thrown at them.

If you are a footballer et al you can get away with just about anything.

Bet that there is no meaningful penalty.

Got to the Olympics (great) - wrecked the hotel, spewed on the plane and brought the rest of the team and the country into disrepute.

WOW I am an Olympian !!!

The only medal they forgot to bring home was the Gold Standard one to share it with the rest of Australia who missed out. Meanwhile, back in Melbourne after a premature donut celebration right in the face of Gladys...

Edit: Apparently the U+1F369 donut emoji rendered as four question marks.

All in all the Japanese have put on a very good games and Australia must be happy with the performance of their athletes.

Is there a medal count that only includes proper traditional sports, i.e. running, jumping throwing and gymnastics? Swimming  and martial arts I can accept, but team sports, dancing, bicycle riding and all the other circus entertainment....it just ruins the atmosphere

Well there's more than 14, so that rules out you counting them on your fingers and toes.
