The corona virus COVID-19

He has an assistant who has said he refuses to work with anyone not vaccinated AND he has at least one person who has openly said they are refusing to be vaccinated, she’s ‘not anti vaccines, I just don’t like the idea of this one’.
Aaron
Why would someone who is not against other vaccines not like the idea of this one? We have an emergency situation with COVID-19 like we have never had with smallpox, measles or rubella.

They usually trot out the following arguments:
1) It's an experimental vaccine....
2) The Govt are mandating it  - but this is 'wrong' and want to 'stick-it-to-the-man'.

For some of those who use 1), there is some justification based on side-effects.  Although the evidence is that benefit outweighs risk (especially for older people).
As for 2) - that's called 'a tantrum'.

1) I am led to believe that the design of a vaccine to fight against all sorts of Sars viruses has been going on for decades. The urgency due to the current pandemic has seen that magic ingredient, money, pumped into the ongoing research to speed up the delivery of a viable vaccine. The need dictates the outcome.

2) I've written previously about the differences between people who don't want the government to tell them what to do, vs. the people who don't need the government to tell them what to do because they know it is the right thing to do anyway.

It's interesting to hear of friends kids getting Covid atm. Mostly a short and sharp fever, stomach upset, and all good after 2 days....

Apparently they reckon 76% of school age children in the UK have had Covid.

I heard on Sunrise this morning that "they" are hoping in include the COVID vaccine/booster with an annual flu shot.

The vaccine is not yet available to those under 12.

Meanwhile, the number of new cases a day in the United Arab Emirates, the most vaccinated country in the world other than microstates, has fallen below 100.

Dan Andrews says all non-essential in-person shopping (i.e. anything that's not a pharmacy or food store) will require you to be double-vaxxed soon and for all of 2022...

The black economy will develop even more quickly I suspect for the holdouts.

If they even have money, since most places will require double vax to even work.

It should be called fully vaccinated. It would take four doses to be double vaccinated.

You almost wouldn't know the lockdown had finished around here in Collingwood. It was a very quiet weekend. Most venues still closed and the few that opened were pretty quiet. The weather probably didn't help.

I think that is all set to change as from Friday 6PM a hell of a lot of restrictions are going to lift that will make commerce much easier.

This Friday will be the real end of lockdown I think.

Want to know your chances of getting Covid or dying from it, or the risk of clots from AZ, depending on your demographic?

Mr. Lane
I was quite surprised how few people were out and about in North Melbourne yesterday too. Might have been the crappy weather. Did a walk by pub crawl around the GF's neighbourhood, the Courthouse remains closed and doesn't look good while the Town Hall and Limerick Castle were open and both had plenty of spare seats inside and out.

Finished up at the Albion which only had around 10 or 12 all up I reckon shared between inside and out. The Albo is up for sale and may get turned into apartments the way things are going as it is zoned residential. So we had a few to show our support and try to give the books a boost!

The landlord turned away 2 groups while we were there, both had one person who only had one dose (the rest were all double). He said he had already had one compliance check.

We could have done away with lockdowns long ago if we started building quarantine facilities early on in the pandemic and shifted quarantine there from hotels, with public servants always present at every facility, and none of our citizens or permanent residents leaving the Trans-Tasman bubble other than in the most extraordinary circumstances.
If we really want to do away with lockdowns, we should reap the full benefits of the vaccine, including vaccinating those of school going age and even those in daycare.

The UK is now looking at going back into a lockdown due to rising case numbers even though the vaccination rates have been high.

What does this mean for Australia once we all open up are we gong to see a large upswing in infections?

Some experts have suggested it, but the UK Government has so far ruled it out. Australia will almost certainly have much higher vaccination by the time our winter rolls around and we will be offering 3rd doses by then...my mum has already had a Pfizer dose after two Astra Zeneca doses.

I cannot see NSW, Vic or ACT going back into lockdowns unless a new strain arrives that renders the vaccine ineffective.

If QLD, NT and WA don't get their vaccination rates up they could be in for a shock after opening their borders. They are letting down the whole country at this point.

What on earth is Dan Andrews thinking/drinking in legislating targeted discrimination during a pandemic?

With the NSW border open to all comers from Dec 1, I would expect a significant exodus from Vic...

Why doesn’t your church have a lesbian minister?
  Carnot Minister for Railways

Why doesn't a mosque have a Rabbi?
Why isn't the Atheist Society headed up by an Imam?
Why doesn't the Victorian CWA have male members?
Why isn't the hospital ED run by a New Age Reiki specialist?

Discrimination in many situations is necessary so that its people assent to certain shared values, lifestyles, skills, and/or beliefs. But the Vic Govt seems intent on wide-ranging arbitrary exclusion even if there are no cases.

And Dan has deliberately excluded several MPs from parliament who would vote against his bill.  He makes Sir Joh look like a libertarian.

As for Aaron's question remember the Christianity was founded long before discrimination laws, in fact at a time when homosexuality was widely condemned.

Mosque are run by Imams, which are equivalent to Rabbis and priests. Also, Rabbi and Imam are occupations, they are not fundamental characteristics. Discrimination is by definition, either on the basis of fundamental characteristics and/or on the basis of religion, not on the basis of occupation.

I am glad to have visited Episcopalian (Anglican) churches in the USA with Lesbian vicars. Here in NZ I know both Lesbian and homosexual priests. It is the rabid homophobic Anglican Diocese in Sydney which prevents, one of the many reasons I emigrated.
I knew a Lesbian minister in the Uniting Church in Sydney.
Fortunately I (an Anglican) spent over 20 years teaching in Catholic schools in Sydney, for much of that time, I was openly gay.
I do not know anything about the proposed Victorian law but do not believe bigoted religious organisations should be allowed to discriminate.
And, to be on topic, I am horrified to see that religion should be an allowable reason to not be vaccinated and still keep a job for which it is mandated.

Well there’s 2 employees in the company I work for, who’ve refused the jab. We’re in an industry where it’s mandatory. Those 2 have taken long service leave under the deluded belief that in 3 months when they come back, that things will be different for their employment.
Things will probably be different, they’ll probably be terminated. Why, well if customers insist in only having vaccinated people attending their premises to undertake work, then neither of these two can be employed in their job.
If the company doesn’t comply, we’d lose the contract. If one of our employees was unvaccinated and happened to pass Covid to someone at the premises, could the premises owner or my employer be sued?
If the unvaccinated employee got Covid off a fully vaccinated colleague during work hours, could the employer be sued for failure to provide a safe workplace?  Do the fully vaccinated employees have a case suing the employer for retaining unvaccinated employees, for the same failure to provide a safe workplace???

Another colleague was a staunch anti vaccer.  But the lovable part was the only Nicole income he was earning and the ininent demise is of it by sticking to his morals was causing him concern. Strangely, when the income carrot is big enough,  morality can be overcome.
