Bellarine Railways $3.5M track upgrade grinds to a halt

    Can anyone shed any light on the rumor that the GSPS has sacked their appointed project manager and the Victorian Government has appointed a project management firm to run this upgrade. Rumor has it that this happened after the government auditor was there to examine the project funding and management. Things don’t seem to be going very well on that railway at the moment.

    That is a worrying development reading between the lines perhaps the project has not been going as well as it should and the money is not being managed as well as it could.

    Id auditing project grants during the delivery the normal cadence for the government?

    That is how the VGR works, the Castlemaine and Maldon Rail Preservation Society is the group that I am a member of not the VGR

    The CMRPS as it's name suggest was formed very soon after closure to preserve the line as a working museum. The VGR bit came later

    That would be my thought too. The "G" in GSPS coming from the days when it operated at Belmont, a suburb of Geelong.

    Probably the attitude of so many who speak in acronyms although I doubt that the PS applies in a lot of cases.

    RP is Australia wide and we all need to remember that fact and not talk in local acronyms and abbreviations known only to oneself and the gunzel standing alongside.

    Did we ever find out what it was that GSPS (now that we all know what that means) did or did not do to cause their track upgrade to be stopped?

    GSPS is Geelong Steam Preservation Society ta Bellarine Railway, it is/was a sub division of the ARHS and started in Belmont Common before moving to Queenscliff on the South Geelong to Queenscliff branch line.

    The project is in full Steam so to speak and has been held up by covid, people are more than welcome to reach out to the railway direct.

    Wonder if the audit looked at the relationships there between the group and the Blues Train operation.

    This might be seen as public money going into fund the track for a private profit making business.

    Hope it works out.

    Given that the ARHS no longer exists in Victoria and there is no mention of the Bellarine Railway or GSPS in the minutes after at least the 1980s, I'd take this one with a grain of salt...

    This could be similar to many other charities today.

    A corporate marauder becomes involved by agreement, becomes all powerful, ends up virtually taking over, uses the charity as a cover to make money (with little or no tax paid), 98% of income goes to running a business to make profits, employ staff and fool the public/media/government.

    Poor little charity struggles along on 2% of income, volunteers are pi88ed off and eventually becomes nothing but a shadow organisation.

    Isn't reality wonderful,
