SDS Models web update mk2

  a6et Minister for Railways

The only thing I'd say about purchasing directly from SDS (and from Auscision and other suppliers) is that I send my order and $$$$ to them to secure my order and would expect a next day or next business day response with an acceptance of order and a receipt.  I'm handing over my hard-earned to them in trust, proactive response should be reciprocated.

While I agree with you in regard to what one should expect, what is reality in many cases is that with the way industries are these days and the slow productions from China makes it much harder for some of them, as they wait on parts for models these days.

What annoys me more is when one sends a mail order request to one lot, is rejected as they do not do that through the week, to get an item from this mob, they say one has to go in on a Saturday and get it then. Not driving 300Km's to deal with them in any way, shape or form.

SDS do not have a shop, and considering this is a SDS thread you should have put your comment into the Auscission thread to save confusion.

Rod, ignore the poster as he must have studied the post in a huge way in order I would suggest to see what sort of reaction he gets.  Hard as one loses his faculties in trying to understand the elements of how to post on a blog, age shall weary such likes and the years condemn.

As the original poster in this chain, do you consider it in any way acceptable a6et that I have placed and paid orders well over a month ago with both companies but have not had any acknowledgement of my order from either?  I have supported their projects, handed over my payment in good faith, yet crickets in return?  Do you really think this is good business practice?  I find it very poor communication and customer service.

Gunzel.   The post to Rod was aimed at a reply he had directed at Mr1855, as he comes into this thread with his comment regarding the thread to be moved, that is what I replied to as did Comtrain/Rod.

SDS is IMHO at the top of the ledger as far as I am concerned.  I put an order in before the Christmas break that the company had, I note with that order there is no way that I could find to make the order online, so I sent the order and CC details by post. I got a receipt back within a week of sending the order.

I would suggest rather than post the problem here on RP to wait until the re-opening of the SDS office? and ring them in regards to the order problem, after all they like many other businesses and workers all have a holiday break during the year, and for those with families, its the ideal time for them as they can have a family holiday together like a lot of other families do.

I would suggest that your order was placed at a time when both of the businesses were on a holiday break. Given that postal services pre Christmas was a disaster in the delivery times owing to the amount of parcels/mail etc you would not be the only casualty in that regard.  Also SDS had on their pre Christmas last news page that they would be closing until 22 January this year.  Did others do the same?

I notice on the SDS website - on the 81 Class page, that as forecast in their most recent newsletter (December 2021), that the DC versions of the Candy 81 Class are marked as being available.

Curious as to whether anyone has received/purchased any of these and what are their thoughts? (I've got orders for the sound versions coming later in the year)

SDS, fire the friends kid who does your website and spend a few bucks on doing it properly.
Lets at least have something where the front page has products and announcements on it.

Buried half way down 2 pages deep is not how you announce a product and order forms.

Delivery of the Candy DC models is imminent because I received a phone call today to confirm that my delivery address hadn't changed for my order I placed in 2015.

That's long range commitment! I did that with the previous incarnation of the 81 and got stung big time

What price were they listed at out of curiosity?

Probably not relevant in this instance but do SDS offer early-bird pricing?

At the time, SDS did offer early bird prices for the 81s. At the time I placed my orders (~2017?) the prices were $275 (DC) and $375 (DCC & sound) with $20 postage. Current prices are $335 and $465.

The 1620 was actually announced last year, along with the TGR and WAGR locos.
It's order form is up while the others haven't changed yet.

As with previous models, CGL is involved too.

Does anyone know if the pre-order price still applies for the VR T class locomotives?

I have tried contacting them, but so far have not got a response, and unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to visit the Diamond Creek exhibition this weekend or I would ask them there.

People chastised me back in November when I suggested SDS would do a QRN/Interail 423 class loco. Having just seen the SDS banner displays for this weekends exhibition it looks like the 423 and a few other QR inspired locos are in the works, some of which will have appeal to modern SA/Vic/NSW modellers. No doubt we'll hear more in due course.

So there's a chance of a 2800 finally?
  lkernan Chief Commissioner

I'm sure they've been working on plenty of things like that, after all at Diamond Creek they had a 3D printed cab and nose for what looked like a Westrail R class out.
The Interail 423 and Tasrail DQ are basically just 1502s with new cab and noses.

It's no secret that a 2800 would be very popular up north, whoever does it will have no problems selling it.
