Yeah I like how it works in conjunction with the LEDs. It's about time they're being used for something other than displaying the time!

I hope they update the system at the stations as well. I really hate the announcements at the moment. They're confusing when the trains have complex stopping patterns. I remember hearing one like "The Ipswich with connection to Rosewood train running express from Indooroopilly to Redbank stopping only at Corinda, Oxley and Darra will arrive on platform 1 in approximately 2 minutes." I never thought it would end! lol.

About Sydney, I recently read that someone's train was 71 minutes late on the Cronulla line and apparently everybody just cheered when they heard that, cause they'd already been waiting 45 minutes because 2 other trains had been cancelled before that... Pretty sad.

I actually don't mind those new annoucements on IMU. I notice that some LCD's are playing up on those trains at the moment.

The LCDs on a few of the older IMUs are not working at the moment, although when the VAS is in use on a service to Nambour or Robina, the LCD works in tandem with the VAS, where it shows the next station info on the LCD.

Cheers.

The LCD is bugged on 122.

Technically, the displays are LED (Light Emitting Diode) not LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). LCD's are the black on grey displays found on Digital Watches, VCR's and so on.

Extra information could have been programmed into the LCDs for some stations (with tourist attractions) to assist passengers and tourists to South East Queensland.

Cheers.

LCD can be colour as well. LED is a Light Emitting Diode and thus used more as blinkers for CD players and computer status lights, however also on low quality displays like the IMU's.

From my time in England I can remember displays being used quite effectively: It flashed the next station, time, distance/time to London, and other information.

I look forward to hearing this new Automatic Annoucement System

I can just imagine the voiceover on the City of Townsville Tilt Train
"The next station is Trackside, This train will terminate at Trackside, Would all passengers please leave the train here"

I think I heard this when I was up there and caught the train from Robina to Central.

That voice is at least a bit less annoying than the MilLemon rendition "This train will stop at ________" NYARRGGGGHHH!!!!

Wasn't there a female voiceover on the IMUs when they first entered service? because I remember when I came home from Brisbane in late 96 early 97, there was a female voice. I remember it saying something sort of like "This is the Helensvale train (at the time) stopping at all stations. The next station is Coomera. Passengers for Dreamworld, please meat your coach at the front of the station.

I think that's what it said. Not exactly sure though

Thanks

Jamie

Longest on-platform announcement I heard so far was at Kuraby, It was a morning peak city-bound train which was continuing onto Nambour.

"The Brisbane City and Nambour train, running express from Altandi to Salisbury, then from Bowen Hills to Caboolture stopping only at Northgate and Petrie, will arrive on Platform 2 in approximately 2 minutes, please stand behind the yellow safety line untill the train has stopped"

I could imagine what the announcement would be like at a Robina line station, if one of their trains continued onto Nambour (or the reverse).

Cheers.

Longest I've heard is........

"The Brisbane city and airport train running express from Loganlea to southbank stopping only at yerongapilly, and then running express from bowen hills to brisbane international airport stopping only at eagle junction, will arrive on platform 2 in approxamitly 2 minutes. This is a 3 car unit, please move towards the middle of the platform, and stand behind the yellow saftey line."
Rolling Eyes

I think they've changed the second part to say "express bowen hills to eagle junction" to cut it back a bit.

Most announcements in Brisbane where the train runs express twice tend to say "then from" or "and from" before the second express announcement. Eg. "The Brisbane City and Airport train running express from Loganlea to Southbank stopping only at Yeerongpilly, then (or and) from Bowen Hills to Brisbane International Airport stopping only at Eagle Junction..."

For some odd reason some Airport announcements announce the train running express from Eagle Junction to Brisbane International Airport while others don't.

Here's an example from Austranz: Taken at Nerang, a Brisbane City and Airport train running express Beenleigh to Southbank and Bowen Hills to Eagle Junction: http://austranz.railmedia.com.au/qld/audio/qldrail001.wma

It was recently changed to "running express from Bowen Hills to Eagle Junction" to shorten the announcement and possibly remove some confusion over the announcement.

Cheers.

These trains also stop at Yeerongpilly and Loganlea.

People don't understand announcements at the best of times, so I think attempting to comprehend all of this information in one announcement is near impossible!

The above announcement (with the 3-car only warning, let alone another express pattern) would be a bit too much to comprehend...!

Cheers.

From Robina to the Airport, it annouces as:

"The Brisbane City and Airport train, running express from Beenleigh to Southbank, stopping only at Loganlea and Yeerongpilly, and then express from Bowen Hills to Eagle Junction.....will arrive...."blah blah blah.

I thought it was different that it said "and then express"..

By the way, ar31, does that city-nambour service still go?

Cheers
