Model Railway Exhibitons

Whilst the topic is very general we need to give credit to AMRM for writing an excellent article about the diversity about exhibitions.

As someone who has attended various exhibitions from all around Australia I would like people's thoughts about the future of exhibitions and especially that over the June long weekend we have so many exhibitions held at the same time thereby depriving manufacturers an opportunity to visit places like Adelaide to put up a commercial stands.

I know many of you out there would probably say why rock the boat but the simple fact is that our exhibitions should evolve over time and yes should actually be more than just showing off a layout, maybe come and try workshops etc could be incorporated.

We need to remember not all modellers attend conventions for various reasons but those that attend exhibitions are not just looking for inspiration but sometimes the new model that comes out or even better 'exhibitions specials' (its a way manufacturers and hobby shops lure people to the exhibitions etc).

What do you see is the good, bad and ugly about exhibitions or is it a case of lets stick with what we got?
Let's here from organizers see what they think? We know it takes a lot of time and effort to an exhibition, some are more proactive in asking for feedback and some others are not?

These are my thoughts what do you think?

I believe that at the Waverley Model  Train show they're doing a version of the "come and try" with some small scenery builds.

What a great job Will James is doing!
I note he is rather critical of some of his videos (prototype, I think)  But I never saw the faults he mentioned. However I agree he must spend heaps of time and money chasing all over the place.

Biggest problem with Exhibitions, at my age now, is finding a place to sit and rest for a while. Canberra was a rabbit warren of rooms connected by many passages. Although signs aplenty, I found myself walking these endless corridors trying to return to an exhibitor for a second look. I did find a chair for a sit down , but was soon  sent on my way, because it was for a trader. After a while the outdoor eating area started to thin and I got a seat out there about 1.00 .
Food was missing. We traveled up from Wodonga and arrived about 10.00 am. The girl scouts were selling biscuits and coffee but no sweeteners were available. No good as I left mine at home.  The sausages were good, but no diet soft drinks, They had water but eventually ran out.
Most Exhibitions could hire a coffee van, I should think, even if they decided not to cater for the hungry attendee's.
The Exhibitions of late were  all good apart from that. Well done!!

Just got home from visiting this exhibition, well worth a look, by far the best layout display is the Puffing Billy in O Gauge, it is a stunner, good layouts on hand , and plenty of stall selling the usual items.  Great day................
