Minor parties tipped to cause chaos at state election

New analysis suggests up to 42 seats are at risk of changing hands as voters turn away from the Andrews government and the opposition in favour of minor parties.

Isn't this the wrong forum?  Another "not needed" thread IMO.

Why is it no needed the site has an election thread for every state and federal election in the country.  Many issues now riding on what happens down here in the coming months.

We have a dedicated Political Soapbox thread, in the General Forums section,  designed for just such topics. That is where this one belongs.
  8502 Assistant Commissioner

The forum is wrong but the thread is right?

Anyhow what is stopping a well funded "TEAL" group to start targeting key seats for Andrews?  The libs are in trouble and have failed to make any impact from opposition.    The ALP is not as revered as once was and Dan is on the nose.  The greens might have a real chance in Victoria and th independents.

The question on everyone's mind now at RP is what will the Andrews government commit to for the next election cycle?

Mildura passenger train?

You could keep this thread exclusively for public transport related promises and keep the otherwise political stuff on Soapbox -

When the announcements come for the pending election how much money will actually be available for transport projects?

This is worrying.

So it's working then. It's meant to worry you. It's a political advertisement designed to get you to vote against the current government.

I couldn't say if it is true, or not. But schoolkids these days are routinely taught to question information by asking
  • Who says this?
  • What evidence do they have to back up the statement?
  • Is there missing context?
  • What motives might the author have in making the statement?

Hence my BS comment.

If it's from the State Opposition...unlikely because it has to have a by-line if it is.

If it's from the Murdoch media...3 state election losses to the Andrews government and a likely 4th, despite lies and other BS advocating for the Guy Opposition. Not forgetting the Murdoch anti-Albo/anti-independent headlines which also failed miserably.

The people have woken up and don't blindly follow the editorial policy of their daily tabloids... if they even read them any more

Mike.

The $167,000,000,000 figure is correct though - even your beloved ABC says so.
  Tony M. Junior Train Controller

According to that article, $167.5 billion is a forward estimate regarding net debt 2025-26. Possibly more relevant is this bit:

"Economist David Hayward said some of the assumptions were "a bit bold", including the projected inflation rate, which is already out of date.

He said the net debt was currently sustainable, as it was locked in at low interest rates and was being used to fund investments which would support the economy."

So using that particular figure as a big scary number seems based mostly on the idea that it's a big scary number and only the Liberals can save us from it.

We are now past the mid point of July and heading swiftly toward august and the next election in November. We have not yet seen much in the way of transport announcements linked to the election when will we see any of at all ?

Extension of Albury services to Wagga Wagga would be a good step here with some assistance from the NSW government.

You need Portland freight project delivered is another one. What about Mildura passenger train could this be announced ?

Albury to Wagga in NSW responsibility

There do seem to be lots of reports. The consultants are doing well. I'm all for evidence based stuff but it sound like studies have been done before and concluded its a good idea, so just do it.
