I wonder why Trump was not quick to condemn the rioters, maybe he wanted the Capitol Building stormed.

Who was the one pushing the Trump thread for several months on end after he left office, oh lemony one?

Um, maybe just maybe because there were issues still surrounding him, just because a person has left office, that person can get talked about for as long as they want to. if you want to be pedantic about it, yes the same can be applied to Biden as well, quite happy with that.

That just isn't true - we've tried having several threads on Joe Biden here and they get repeatedly shut down by people who don't want it discussed deliberately trying to derail it. Biden has been in office for eighteen months now and the US economy is in the worst shape its been in for decades but we aren't allowed to talk about it here.

Hypocrisy, much?

'Meaningless' Liz Cheney reports on witness tampering.

  Sonofagunzel Minister for Railways

For once, I agree with you Mike.  That was meaningless.

First, how much pressure do you think these witnesses are under to dump on Trump?  Remember, the Democrats are in government and have far more formal and informal power to make your life a misery than Trump does.  Do you think these politicians - all of them with an interest in destroying Trump politically - would be interested in raising that issue?

Second, listen carefully to what she said about who is sending these messages and trying to exert this pressure.  The description was wide enough to encompass any rando Trump fanboys.  For all you know, she was quoting Don*.

Third, where exactly is the proof that these witnesses were asked to lie?  Those statements could also be consistent with pressure to tell the truth.  Context is important.  Without knowing who said these things, who they said them to, and the context in which they were said, they don't mean much.  Cheney is protected by Congressional privilege.  She could name names if she wanted to and if she had the proof.  What she's done may be politically calculated to cast aspersions on her political opponents without being specific enough to allow them to refute the inference that she is drawing.

Fourth, if Cheney were acting out of political self-interest, she would say something like this, wouldn't she?  It doesn't mean it's true.

Finally, you said Don didn't respond to your argument that Cheney is a respected Republican and therefore should be seen as an honest broker in all this, because she is on the Republican's side.  In fact, Don did respond to that point, quite convincingly.  He said:

Of course Trump had enemies in the Republican Party - are you saying that Albo doesn't have the same in the Labor Party who wouldn't stab him in the back given half the opportunity? You're stupid in the extreme if you don't believe that.
don_dunstan

By the way, I know you won't engage with any of these points rationally.  Don't go to any extra effort on my account.  I'll be more than happy with your usual standard of response.

*No offence, Don.

It's not so much that we aren't allowed to talk about it, it's more about what happens when we try.

I see it this way:
  • threads criticising Trump get hot but don't devolve into pure flaming so they stay open
  • threads criticising Biden get hot but often do devolve into flaming so eventually get locked.

It does take two to tango, but broadly the responses to criticising Biden are more vehement and flame-y than the responses to criticising Trump.

In depth analysis of Trumps behaviour by me is superfluous. I'm already on the side of what's right when comes to the evil of Trump. Moreover when it comes to matters of Trump...he who laughs last laughs the longest.

Nah, all you do is pontificate from your pulpit about how other people are wrong-thinking and you're right.

But you're not right, you don't understand what the issues actually are and all you do is berate and admonish people who you view as deviant from your pious gospel.

I agree.

That is generally true in any case, but is particularly true here given that my post wasn’t actually about Trump.

I'm already on the side of what's right when comes to the evil of Trump.
The Vinelander
Certainty is strongly correlated with ignorance.

You seem to think there are only two sides to anything; goodies and baddies.

That world view is infantile.

Moreover when it comes to matters of Trump...he who laughs last laughs the longest.

M.

You might be laughing but you don’t seem happy. You come across as bitter, ignorant and vindictive.

Never said you shouldn't take the vaccine, my dear, it's entirely your personal choice. And it's inherently contradictory - but I guess you lack the intelligence to see that.

My favourite hypocrites over the vaccine mandates were none other than Rage Against the Machine, who have always marketed themselves as the ultimate anti-establishment band but then forced their fans to be vaccinated before they could attend their concerts.

These Dr Seuss-inspired mugs have been upsetting lots of Biden supporters in the United States - and flying out the door as a result.

Here is Mike.
What’s he like?
All grown up
Or still a tyke?

Make a point,
He tends to pike.
One two three
Another strike!

Take your bat,
On your bike,
Mike, it's time
To take a hike.

No train home?
Find a trike.
Till you're back,
We drop the Mike.

Very Happy

Meanwhile Joe Biden reads literally from the teleprompter and says "repeat the line": News18;
