1972: Public Transport Commission formed, combining the Department of Railways (NSWGR) and the Department of Government Transport and Omnibus Services
1973: PTC absorbed the Sydney Harbour Transport Board, which operated Sydney Harbour Ferries Pty Ltd and the Port Jackson and Manly Steamship Co Ltd.
1980: PTC split up. Rail operations to the State Rail Authority, buses and ferries to the Urban Transport Authority. SRA had a subsidiary Railway Workshop Board.
1989: SRA restructured into separate operating divisions - CityRail, Countrylink and FreightRail.
1996: SRA split up into "new" SRA (CityRail and Countrylink), Freight Rail Corporation (FreightCorp), Rail Services Authority and Rail Access Corporation.
1999: RAC and RSA merged into the Rail Infrastucture Corporation.
2002: FreightCorp sold to Patrick/Toll as part of Pacific National. PN Rural & Bulk Division is effectively the old FreightCorp.
2004: SRA and RIC merged into RailCorp.
