Replacement of Station PIDs

Dear All

Sorry if this has been mentioned a while ago, but in the last few weeks, Connex has been been replacing the platform PIDS at various stations.

Essendon, Sunshine & Caulfield are some stations that I know have been done, and probably others too.

The replacement screens appear to be similar model to the ones at the Station Plus stations and some of the later premium stations on the North side (such as Bayswater).

Does anyone know why Connex is replacing the old PIDS, that generally worked fine?

And are any new locations set to get PIDS?

Kind Regards

What were the old ones like, compared to the newies?

Well, the erm, font size on the new ones is slightly larger, and the LEDs are slightly brighter.  Looks like they're making them easier to read.

Although, the time that they're blank when the display is updating is slightly longer.  You take the good with the bad....

I wonder if Mentone will get a set as part of its Premium Station Status in October?

Werribee had its old PIDs 'Metlinked' (blue border added round the screen) only to have the entire PID replaced a couple of days later ... Very strange, the old PIDs worked fine ...

Are these new ones being installed like the green flip dot ones at the MATH stations? (and at Keilor Plains I think)

Nah... they are like the ones stations such as Burnley and East Richmond got during station upgrading.

Ah I think I know the ones. East Richmond, Burney and Hawthorn have them where the LED's seem to be spaced apart more, and then Glenferrie has the other type seen on Connex South stations.

Most of the Hurstbridge line was converted on put these types of PID's in the upgrade of the stations. The only ones with out them are: Hurstbridge, Wattle Glen, Dimond Crk, Montmerancy, Egalemont, Darrebin, Dennis and Westgarth

Eltham, Greensborough, Hidelburg and Ivanheo have the realy old ones which fail all the time.

Though they'd be handy at Mentone, I'd have thought that Bentleigh (with its three tracks and already a premium station) would be a higher priority.

EDIT: I meant to post a legend but forgot. Thank you for reminding me Nexas:
New (old) = PIDs that have been around for a while, but are the newer type
Old (old) = PIDs that are... ancient! - I meant ones that are older and have been around for a while, like at Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Ringwood etc..
Old (TV) is as described, an old TV set of PIDs
New (new) = PIDs that are the new style, and have recently been put up (like Sunshine)
Green DotMatrix = PIDs like at the stations updated etc by M>Train

Does that help?

They should have a look at one of the crt screens on platform 3 flagstaff its a bit blurry due to the blue in the screen being the only primary color on it.  seems to be one of the newer type but how much attention do they spend on the crt screens in the UGRL

There are others that have PIDs on their overpasses, underpasses or bus bays, or even in the station building itself, but not on the platform(s).

What this reveals is that, comparatively, Lilydale/Belgrave and Hurstbridge have the highest proportion of their stations having PIDs, while some lines like Frankston, Upfield and Sandringham have a real dearth of them.
