As from next Monday (17th July), Connex will run an additional (NonPSR, but advertised) train from Dandenong to Flinders Street (direct from Richmond), departing Dandenong at 7:19 a.m. and arriving Flinders Street at 8:04 a.m.

I think this is one of the additional trains that was intended to start with the timetable that will coincide with the eastern RFR timetable, brought forward to start sooner.

Is it running express or stopping all stations?

Excellent!!!!! Very Happy

This service plugs a 6 minute gap between the 0653 up Pakenham and 0710 up Cranbourne into two 3 minute gaps.

This line is very slowly becoming like the Lilydale and Belgrave line in terms of service frequency. Good stuff!

Cool Thanks for that, Does anyone have the times of the two Dandenong services aded last year? I quite enjoy using the PM service, its the only non-crush loaded service at that time (I get on at Richmond) and sometimes it rat-races a down Frankston to Caufield too.

0706 up Dandenong, express Caulfield to South Yarra.

*1716 down Dandenong, express South Yarra to Caulfield.

* - Although the timetables released about this train said this train commences at Southern Cross at 1711 before heading to Flinders Street, I believe this train has not once ever actually started at Southern Cross. Maybe JoM can confirm.

Perhaps the train should be sheduled to operate to/from North Melbourne, given the odds that such a train when is sheduled to start/end at Southern Cross, is perhaps a train stabled in the North Melbourne yards somewhere.

Hi Phil.

That's an attention-getter!

Connex are Well Done

Are new printed timetables going to be issued? If so when will they be available?

Additional trains as and where needed are very welcome. But plugging a SIX minute gap? Please.

Am I not alone in feeling somewhat short-changed that the SEVENTEEN minute gap in Frankston morning services hasn't been addressed? We get a 15-minute headway off-peak but have this mighty gap between the 07.03 and 07.20. With very little tweaking of the present timetable the 07.16 Carrum starter could be brought back to start from Frankston or better still something entirely new introduced to add extra capacity.

The relatively new 17.16 down Dandenong direct runs only 20 - 25% full most days which also sits uncomfortably with Frankston passengers whose trains at 17.08, 17.11 and 17.18 are all just about at bursting point before they come off the loop. And we still have no express in the 17.30 to 18.00 interval, which causes the 17.40 all stations to become grossly overloaded (and thereby delayed) since it arrives before the 18.00 express at suburban stations.

I understand there might be some timetable "modifications" on the way and I'm only too well aware that Frankston is far from the only overcrowded line. No doubt the reason Dandenong is being favoured again is that stock / crew is available for the run; if that could be made true for Frankston would we get the same? I'd like to think so.

Snoring. Wake me up if things improve.

I have to agree with Gwiwer. This addition for the Dandenong line is a good thing, but it is a pity that no extras are being run on the Frankston line. In particular, the 07:03-07:20 UP gap from Frankston is simply unacceptable, as is the lack of an express between 17:30 and 18:00 towards Frankston.

I also slightly question the placement of this extra train; if one really wanted to plug a gap, surely the 07:34- 07:45 UP gap from Dandenong would have been a better candidate?

No longer here.

Hmmm, if I travel on any trains earlier than the 8.12 Sandy from FSS it's packed as anything!

I say Sandy trains need an upgrade too!

Out of curiosity, may I ask why these newer trains are arriving at Flinders Street and the city rathr early, compared to when the major expresses run. Is it that AM Passengers are having large variations in wotking times?

- Station Street

Thanks for a good time - but I have decided to stop posting.

I think it has to do with capacity (or lack of) in the loop...
