Still on schedule for Christmas? I finished my C504 2 weeks ago now, just need to buy a decoder for it.

That was Mini_ARG with the Christmas schedule - given the success of the base colours on the cab, I hope to be done much sooner. Very Happy

The original one will take a bit longer though, as I'm having trouble stripping of my initial errors cleanly ... Rolling Eyes

You are right, i've had a lot of contact with him.

Interesting that this thread was started May 21 this year!

Well, the blue is on the main body now, and I stuffed it up again ... those yellow diamond shaped boxes are almost impossible to mask neatly, due to the moulding on the body!

I am trying a repair job, rather than the full restrip/repaint method, because the rest of it is good. My main concerns are that the masking lines from the original error will show through, and that the yellow may need to be too thick to cover the blue that the detail will start to disappear - any suggestions?

At least there was minimal bleeding this time because of the better masking tape ...

Use bills billboards decals, they have the diamonds in the decals so u dont have to mask them off.

How do you get the decals to stretch nicely over the moulding though - there's some really weird shape changes on the left in particular, as I'm sure you know ...

Alright, now I'm getting pretty smegged off - no matter what method I try with painting, I just cannot get those smegging diamonds right! Bang Head

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really want to paint them, because I know I can't make the decals stretch without breaking them - what do I do!?!?!?!?

A Christmas finishing date is looking a no-go if I keep having these problems. Sad

Cut the decals where they would have to negotiate a big jump, and simply patch it up with silverton blue paint.

How i did it:

Cut all the blue below the diamonds on the decal film off, and burn it so you aren't tempted to even contemplate using it.

Where that blue decal WOULD have gone, simply mask it off and paint it blue. Cut out the clear diamonds insides so there is no clear decal film being applied, that just leaves the diagonal blue lines of the decal which actually outline the diamonds. Because these are fairly thin strips, they will go over any bump with effortless ease, as long as you have somthing like micro sol.

Its all about improvising people!

Hey pplz

Thought i might add to this thread rather than starting another.  I've just started work on my C class, and am just needing some pics of the cab roof. I need to work out exactly where to put the ILM air con casting.

Cheers

This is sort of a sidetrack, but i just noticed that Austrains are practically giving C Classes (and remaining Jumbo's) away for the small price of only $150. I am now thinking i should one of those and a CFCLA 44  Very Happy

I think I got it roughly right by putting it in the middle - correct me if I'm wrong. Here's a pic from before the project got put on hold:

bjviper. Fantastic work mate you should enter those in a comp sometime. Very Happy

Thanks guys, hadn't thought bout entering it in a comp. I could still do more work to the underframe, like detail the bogies with new brake cylinders, piping and steps (want to do this in the future), rebuild the batterybox and fuel tank and more piping. And of course, make it real dirty like in this pic http://steven8485.fotopic.net/p15425215.html

As for the long handrail, you could either make your own from .5mm wire, or i believe that L&S hobbies will be doing an etch of it.

Also I think they are going to be producing the ladder on the bogie in the future.

Well, as mentioned elsewhere, I have now given in and purchased Cs4 - I have not totally abandoned the original project, and do intend to come back to it, but for now it remains on hold - my skills are improving, and I will come back to it once confidence is restored. I may do Cs1 now that the full length handrails will become available, but time will tell.

I will also have to detail Cs4 without destroying the paintwork. Confused

bjviper's work pictured above is a true inspiration ...

Unbelievable, but I'm also going to have to repaint my C Class too because C508 is too different after refurbishment, so a Silverton C Class is coming up.

I know I'm a beginner, and it's dumb for me to do something so hard and more experienced modellers can also find it a little hard to do, but after all, I don't care if I muck up - decals are cheap, it's only a bit of paint which can be scrapped off and my C Class, which needs work anyway. And this is something I will have to do sometime, so I'd rather do it soon.

I know how to get the decals, paints, detailing parts and all that.

Does anyone know whether or not kits for the full length handrails for the C Class are available? On the topic of handrails, are there also ones for the NR too?

I held off detailing up my C's too much. I added a radio disc and air con unit to the roof and added a few hoses and weathering and done. That was for my V/Line and Silverton models and the VR Blue just got some hoses and thats it.
I admire you guys for getting into the whole stripping and repainting thing - I am still testing on old Lima bodies for now.

Can anyone confirm that the yellow from Austrains CLP/CLF is the same as the yellow used for the Silverton C Class? I have a feeling that the Silverton Cs need a brighter yellow.

And there are no handrail kits for the NR or C?

Nope - I've emailed Austrains numerous times before and I haven't got a reply. Have to ask you guys instead.
